Chapter 27

Caleb perked his ears attentively waiting for what his grandfather got to say. He knew that once his grandfather said it was an interesting piece of news, it was something's way beyond that or he was just trying to share about boring things like what he did this morning or what troublesome things pop out in his work.

The old man thought for a moment and answered him in a serious voice. "There was an information I received from my colleagues in Kanto. Apparently, our Kalos Region isn't the only place that had a rookie competition taking place around a month from now."

"Kanto, Sinnoh, Aloha, Hoenn and our neighbors from Unova and others that are still not clear also have rookie competitions being organized by their respective leagues dated on the same day, wierd wasn't it?"

Hearing this made Caleb thoughtful. Why would all this major regions including their's, organize rookie competitions at the very same day?

Even though rookie competitions was an important event that would showcase the region's younger generation's talent around the world to boast, being held once every two years. There was never such cases where regions would commence it on the very same day as the regions.

'Was it a coincidence?' Caleb immediately dispell those thoughts as it would be unlikely.

Nevertheless, for all this regions to have this event commencing at the very same day would seem odd.

Is there something important about this? Caleb thought as he pondered.

Cesar paused as he took a deep breath. "According to the information I got from my friend in Kanto who owed me a favor back in our days. The world renowned professor, Samuel Oak, seemed to be the reason for this."

Hearing the name 'Samuel Oak'. Caleb's face morphed into shock. He didn't see that coming, I mean who was Samuel Oak?

He was a world-famous person living in Kanto, he was an undisputed living legend. Stories about his pokemon journey were known in numerous regions.

Especially back to the days he was a pokemon trainer.

Starting off as a country boy from a backward place located in the Kanto Region, Pallet Town.

After graduating from his trainer academy. He aced the exam in his region, ranking first overall in the batch he was in.

A young man with promising prospects. Astonishing the world within a short span of three years travelling, he challenged the Gym Circuit and won the Kanto's Indigo League in his first try!

Making him eligible to challenge the elite four of Kanto and the champion. Becoming the youngest person ever in the world to ever have accomplish such a feat.

But, that didn't stop there, he also won against the elite four at the time and also, having an outcome of a draw against the former champion of Kanto. Because of the rules and regulations, he technically became the champion of Kanto.

At the tender age of 17 years old, the youngest champion-level powerhouse was born.

Morever, he shocked the world by stepping down the champion seat of the Indigo League. By his terms of stepping down, meaning vanishing from the world.

The whole Pokemon Association searched all over for the young, Samuel Oak. But, it was as if he doesn't exist. No traces of him was found.

As years went by, the commotion he cause eventually died down. However, a few enthusiastic trainers still persisted and searched for the legendary genius, for the purpose of meeting him, or battling the unrivaled figure.

Around 10 years later, he returned. Was found one day, with a drive of becoming a pokemon reasercher.

Arguments were spitted at his face. I mean, why would he become a Pokemon researcher when his talent lies in competitive pokemon battling?

Even his relatives persuaded him on rethinking his decisions. But, those people immediately shut up, as he made countless contributions and introduces numerous ideas that were sky-shattering to the world of pokemon research, followed up on solving countless problems on pokemon evolution, while concentrating on pokemon and human relationships as a professor.

An individual with a talent of both science and the pokemon battlefield.

Making him a symbol of idolization on young bloods from the younger generations.

And this legendary figure was the reason for the rookie competition being correspondingly held at the same exact day for such big regions?

One with a brain could discern that this matter isn't that simple as it seems.

"That... Are you *cough*- With all do respect, grandfather, but is the information you heared certain? I mean, what if it is just groundless rumors?" Caleb couldn't help but ask his grandfather.

Cesar sighed, not at all offended as he understood his grandson's doubts. He too was doubtful at first. But the person he got this information from was trustworthy and wouldn't joke such things like this to him.

Just the news of Samuel Oak being responsible of this behind the scenes is ultimately very shocking indeed. Cesar and Caleb couldn't help but have the gears in their head spinning on the purpose of Samuel Oak's intention.

"I guarantee that it isn't so." Cesar said with conviction. "After all, the person I got this information was a close aide of Professor Oak, his student, Spencer Hale. This information I got is certainly not groundless rumors."

Caleb blushed in embarrassment. But, his mind was thinking that the name 'Spencer Hale' sounds awfully familiar.

Cesar laughed at Caleb's blushing face. But he really didn't mind his grandson's doubts. He suddenly remembered something before saying. "The reason he told me this was that he knew I have grandchildrens who have the chance of participating in this competition. That brat also told me that if any one of you could ever place in the top 10 there would be unimaginable benefits."

"What benefits?" Caleb questioned.

Cesar shrugged. "The asshole never told me, he immediately hung up. Saying he is busy or whatever, but I knew from his tone he was making me overthink things."

Caleb was deep in thought. As he process the things what his grandfather told him.

"Anyways. Let's start your training, think through about all this stuff later. Now, firstly tell me about your training progress while I was gone."

Caleb stood in attention as he nodded in response. His mind easily distracted when it comes to his pokemon training, even though occasionally his thoughts would wonder over the subject they had just talked about.
