Chapter 14: Trainer vs Pokemon

[3rd POV]

In an area next to the camp, two creatures or beings were facing each other.

The one on the left was a green humanoid mantis-like creature while on the other side was a youth holding two strange blades.

Naturally, the identity of both of them was Scyther One and Shiroe with Doublade in his hands.

"Okay, to make things fair... I'm going to set up some ground rules"

- Scyther!

Shiroe spoke, knowing full well that he had no chance of winning when Scyhther One went all out.

After all, he was only a normal human with no prior training in the art of swordsmanship at all.

"First, you're forbidden from using any powered attacks..."

- Scyther

"You can do the basic things like swing, slash, and stuff like that but no fancy moves"

- Scyther~

Shiroe seeing Scyther One having no complaints, nodded in contentment as he continued laying out rules.

"Naturally, I can't use any fancy moves of Doublade as well like Shadow Sneak, Night Slash, and the usual"

- Scyther

"But... we are allowed to use Status moves like stat boost"

- Scyther~

Scyther One smiled at that one and even let out a sigh of relief as the Pokemon continued to listen to his trainer.

"Second, you cannot attack me directly..."

- Scyther?

"I know what you're thinking. How would you be able to win against me if you can't attack me?"

- Scyther...

Shiroe stared at the confused Scyther, smiling as he could understand Scyther one problems.

"Well, it's easy actually... you just have to knock Doublade out of my hands"

- Scyther...!

"So, technically you're fighting against Doublade"

- Scyther~

Scyther had a look of realization as fighting spirit burned in his eyes, staring at Doublade in his trainer's hand.

"As for me, I need to at least hit you once on your... let's say chest to win. Does that sound fine to you?"

- Scyther!

Shiroe nodded and grinned, seeing Scyther One sharpen his claws and look battle-ready as the young man took out a piece of tumblestone.

"Once this tumblestone dropped to the ground... is the moment the battle starts, got it?"

- Scyther! Scyther!

"Okay..."

Shiroe nervously clutched the stone in his hand and threw it up in the air as the audience and the fighters watched the stone slowly fall to the ground...

Until it finally landed and both fighters rushed to each other with Scyther One being the fastest.

"Doublade, use Autotomize and Iron Defense!"

Doublade instantly shined as multiple silvery particles fell off of him before a metallic sheen gleamed on the surface of its two blades.

And Shiroe holding them, felt the change of weight within Doublade become lighter as he smirked in delight.

- Scyther!

Scyther One who had rushed first, arrived in front of Shiroe as he swung down his scythe-like claws which the young man instinctively parried with his human strength.

Clang~

Shiroe was pushed back a few meters before frowning suddenly, feeling his arms become numb and throb from the parry.

"Tch..."

It was fortunate that Doublade absorbed most of the impact between the clash or Shiroe would have already dropped the two swords out of his hands from the pain.

'If I can't fight head-on using strength then, what about using speed instead'

Shiroe instantly sprinted but not towards Scyther rather he was circling the Pokemon instead with his eyes constantly moving, observing every inch and crook of Scyther.

- Scyther~ Scyther~

Seeing this, Scyther One chuckled in amusement as multiple of him suddenly appeared all over the battlefield or more accurately, afterimages of him.

'Double Team!'

Shiroe thought as he recognized the move and frowned, racking his brains on which one was the real Scyther until he got lazy and started hacking everything.

He kept trying to slash every single one of the afterimages but so far, none of them were the real one.

"This is annoying"

Shiroe commented with a hint of impatience in his tone.

And he kept slashing and slashing until a slight whiff of wind hit the back of his neck.

"...!"

Shiroe immediately rolled away out of instinct which was the right decision as Scyther One had unsuspectingly arrived behind him and was nearly about to snatch Doublade out of his hands.

But Shiroe, being himself wouldn't just take that lying down as he grabbed a handful of dirt and instantly threw it right into Scyther One's eyes.

'Dirt Attack, Bitch!'

- Scyther?!

Scyther One cried out from the stinging pain as a handful of dirt got into its eyes which he did not expect at all.

After all, the Pokemon thought that his trainer would fight honorably which was why he was stunned and wasn't able to react enough to dodge the dirty move.

And this made Scyther One reevaluate his trainer...

As for the audience which was Shiroe's Pokemon, some laughed, others sneered, and a few looked like they had been enlightened.

But all of this did not faze Shiroe as he immediately went for the counterattack.

"Autotomize again!"

Doublade again peeled off silvery particles as his weight became even lighter which made Shiroe smirked as he clenched the handles tighter.

And in an instant, Shiroe rushed toward Scyther One as he raised Doublade high in the air before quickly swinging them down at the Pokemon's chest.

Clang~

But Scyther One had reacted fast enough as he barely managed to block the attack before backing away immediately and using Double Team to hide himself within the afterimages.

"Tch, so close..."

It seems that even if Doublade kept getting lighter, the speed of attacking still had to rely on Shiroe's physical strength.

If he wasn't restricted by his pitiful strength then that attack would have landed.

Which was why he decided to change his play style again from offense to defense.

"Hoh"

Letting out an exhale, Shiroe closed his eyes as he focused his other senses beside his sight, trying to get a feel of Scyther through the sound and vibration of his surroundings.

Swoosh~

Shiroe's ears suddenly twitch, hearing the sound of an object or something heavy moving all around him.

With a subtle shift of his foot, he quietly moved into a position that was favorable for him as he tensed his muscles and waited.

And he didn't need to wait long as Scyther himself charged forward head-on with its claws cocked behind its back.

- Scyther!

Scyther instantly dashed before stopping abruptly and spinning around, using the momentum he built up to inflict heavy damage.

But Shiroe only ducked as the claws went right past his head and with a twirl of his hands, the blades now faced upwards as he performed an uppercut slash.

Slash~

However, Scyther knew his attack was avoided after feeling no contact from his claws which was why he instantly used Double Team and disappeared, leaving only an afterimage behind.

And this afterimage was the one who got slashed instead as Scyther shortly appeared above Shiroe with its wings flapping, using them to hover in the air for a few seconds before striking down his claws.

Clang~

Shiroe managed to raise Doublade above his head in time, blocking the attack but was unfortunately pushed back down due to the difference in strength.

"Keuk!"

Shiroe's knees touched the ground, trying his hardest to fight back but couldn't as Scyther used his entire weight as support.

With quick thinking, he gave up the confrontation and rolled away as Scyther's strike crashed on the ground he was at earlier instead.

Boom!

A small explosion occurred, forming a crater on the ground with Scyther at the center of it as dust and dirt were flying around in the air.

"Damn"

And Scyther was about to continue when Shiroe did something unexpected that made the Pokemon shock.

"I give up!"
