38. Possibility To Travel To Other Regions

Downstairs, Kirlia sat on the swing, swinging happily.

From both the front and side, Natasha and Amy suddenly pulled out cameras, snapping pictures from every possible angle.

While filming, I couldn't help but scream, "Aahhhhhhhhhhhh!"

It was clear that both girls were completely captivated by Kirlia.

Watching their wild behavior, Chris wondered if they were about to lose their minds over Kirlia.

Their constant squealing was giving Chris a headache.

"Senior, remember to help Amy arrange her dorm room," Chris instructed. Seeing that Kirlia was having fun, he decided not to call her back.

At home, Kirlia usually spent her time practicing Calm Mind. It was rare for anyone to play with her, so Chris figured she deserved a break.

He set his luggage down and inspected the small apartment that would be his home for the next four years with satisfaction.

It was in great shape—at least 90% of the furniture was new, and everything was from high-end brands. It was clear that the previous residents had valued their quality of life.

This was a great deal for Chris.

"Everyone, come out and take a break too," Chris said, tossing his Poké Balls.

Combusken, Frogadier, and Makuhita appeared one by one.

"Combusken!" Combusken chirped happily, exploring the new surroundings.

"Froga←_←," Frogadier glanced at Combusken, then silently made his way to the pool at the entrance and began swimming leisurely.

"Maku~~," Makuhita lazily plopped onto the sofa, skillfully grabbing the remote and turning on the TV, settling on a show called *Local Daughter-in-law, Foreign Lang*.

Each Pokémon did what they enjoyed. Chris stretched comfortably, glancing at his watch. It was only half past one in the afternoon.

Before the start of military training, there would be an orientation, the first class meeting scheduled for tomorrow night.

So Chris had a day and a half to relax.

Sitting by the tea table on the small balcony of the second floor, he poured himself a drink, pulled out his phone to order some tea, opened his laptop to choose an anime, and finally picked up his handheld console.

He entered the game and continued his journey!

In Slateport City, Chris had recently acquired not just the Pokéblock Kit and the TM for Swagger but also a Soothe Bell from a kind lady at the Pokémon Fan Club.

The Soothe Bell was a valuable item that helped build intimacy between a trainer and their Pokémon—important for those Pokémon that require a strong bond to evolve.

For instance, Munchlax evolves into Snorlax; Riolu into Lucario; and Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon only when it has a strong bond with its trainer.

Additionally, MEGA Evolution has a hidden requirement related to the strength of bonds. The closer the bond, the easier it is to trigger.

Chris planned to use the Soothe Bell to strengthen his bond with his Pokémon, especially since Combusken, Frogadier, and Kirlia would all be capable of MEGA evolving in the future. The item would be essential for that.

Chris decided to give it to Frogadier first. After all, its MEGA Evolution was quite unique, thanks to its special Ability, "Battle Bond."

However, the constant ringing of the bell with every step Frogadier took would be far too noisy. So, in the end, Chris decided to let Kirlia wear it instead. It wasn't bad—Kirlia could wear it like a bracelet of bells.

In the Slateport City marketplace, an NPC aunt had also gifted Chris a "Powder Jar."

This item is a container that can be filled with the powder Chris produces when making Pokéblocks. By accumulating a certain amount of powder, he can exchange it for various rewards at Big Mom's.

Here's the list of items that can be exchanged for tree fruit powder:

- Energy Powder: 50 servings

- Revival Herb: 300 servings

- Leaf Stone (20% chance): 600 servings (limited to one exchange)

- Protein: 1000 servings (limited to one exchange)

Unlike the old version, where Chris could directly exchange for various Attribute enhancers, he now notices that only one Protein is available for exchange, and it updates weekly. 

Also, it seems the current version has removed the base points system. Protein, which used to increase a Pokémon's base stats, now directly enhances Attributes. Chris isn't sure if this change is a good or bad thing.

With everything collected, Chris continued to advance the storyline. His first task was to head to the Stern's Shipyard in Slateport City to deliver a letter.

After talking to the person in charge at the shipyard, Chris would then need to go to the Oceanic Museum to meet with the curator. The Team Aqua grunts that had been blocking the museum entrance earlier should have entered by now, allowing him to proceed inside.

As was his habit, Chris spoke to everyone he could when he entered the shipyard, including a captain standing at the entrance.

**[Captain: Hello! Would you like to travel to another Region? Taking my ship, the Voyage, is the best option!]**

**[Yes/No]**

"Can I actually go to another Region?" Chris's heart raced. In the past, because he was playing the Emerald version, he could only explore the Hoenn Region, limiting the types of Pokémon he could catch.

If he could travel to other Regions, he'd have the chance to capture Pokémon from all over! He envisioned a team full of rare shiny quasi-legendaries, each from a different Region.

Chris selected "Yes," hoping it would allow him to leave Hoenn and come back whenever he wished.

**[Captain: I can sense your excitement for new Regions, but I'm afraid my Wave Breaker is still under repair. It'll be some time before I can offer voyages to other Regions. Rest assured, I'll notify you when it's ready!]**

**[Captain: (muttering) Maybe I should ask some experienced friends for help...]**

"Seriously?" Chris muttered, feeling a bit let down. The captain's offer had gotten his hopes up for nothing.

If Chris remembered correctly, the captain would be able to take him to the Battle Frontier after he completed the first round of the game.

Could it be that traveling to other Regions would only be possible after finishing the main storyline? Chris couldn't help but wonder.

Still, just knowing he could eventually travel to other Regions filled him with excitement. For now, he'd push the storyline forward and be patient.
