Pewter city gym battle

(Okay, so I have accepted the fact that the Pokemon battles are badly written like I abhor them and am very unsatisfied but I don't knowhow to improve them so please give suggestions)

We arrived at our positions in the open arena of Pewter city gym.

The sun was upon us at the expected noon time, which is advantageous to myIvysaur at least.

"This battle is between Ethan hunt from Pallet town for his Boulder batch, A-grade against Flint from Pewter city, the gym leader of Pewter gym. The battle is league standard 2v2. Pokemon recalling will be the same as forfeiting with the said Pokemon." This was Forrest, the second eldest child.

"As the challenger right states, the defender would be the one to choose his first pokemon to defend his title, or in this case Boulder badge."

I looked straight to the opposite podium, where Flint was smiling while looking at his Pokeball.

"Rhydon." He threw his Pokeball to the ground below us while reciting the Pokemon's name which was engulfed in white light due to its rise from the Pokeball.

Rhydon, ground, and rock type pokemon, high physical attack and defense which means physical moves would do little damage, but surprisingly low special attack damage, which Ivysaur, unfortunately, only have one, solar beam which takes a lot of time to charge without the move, sunny day, a fire type which I again lack. Its speed is meant to be its most developed stat, but that signifies its attack speed not its running speed for which it is famous for.

I should have bought Sunny day for Ivysaur, how did I miss that?

But it also favors me, Golem being the Rock type is most vulnerable to water and grass type moves. Especially with Totodile, with special moves water gun, and water pulse. Dragon claw is physical and untrained.

"You sure are taking your time!." Flint shouted from the opposite side. "You do know that for your first Pokemon you only have 3 minutes to decide?"

"Totodile, go," I said lightly and the Pokeball in my hand opened leaving Totodile just below me.

"Toto to DILE!" "Yeah, I know, she wouldn't like this."

"This sure is convenient for you, but type advantage can only take you this far."

"Begin," Frost shouted.

"Totodile Water gun the arena."

"Rhydon close up will Bulldoze." using mainstream attack just to close down distance? Thats new.

"Totodile use Ice beam." The moe was untrained and took time to form, but it was worth it. Rhydon had its speed brought down from what Bulldoze made it to.

"Nice tactic, this would have worked if it was pure Rock or ground-type Pokemon, unfortunately." his focus changed to Rhydon. "Rhydon Ice beam."

White lighting similar to what Totodile had just shot raised from Rhydon's side, only it was thrice as big and fast as what he just did.

"Wall back with water gun." Totodile flew back with an Action reaction, but Rhydon's ice beam never reached him, because it was not aimed at him. Just the arena was coated with a thin film of ice due to Rhydon's ice beam.

"I have seen a lot of trainers like you, always relying on type advantage against gym leaders, I guess you too have both of your Pokemon water types?" He was looking at me while I signaled Totodile to prepare Water pulse for use at the call.

"True Rock types are weak against Water and grass-type Pokemon, are you familiar with the term TM?" fuck

"Totodile Water Pulse!"

"Rhydon Bulldoze through the attack and Thunderbolt." Rhydon took upon Totodile's Bulldoze. It hit hard, but not as much as what was coming.

"Totodile dodge it and close distance." The Thunderbolt was barely missed, but not over.

"Totodile use Water gun." In moments of peril, the most practiced attack would be the most useful, that too if the opponent had the type advantage. True to this saying Water gun hit the Rhydon, who was already slow due to having to look where to walk due to all the ice.

This was risky as Totodile was up close to a close-range Pokemon but worth it in the long run. "Totodile again use Water Pulse and Fall back!" The distance was enough for Totodile to be not in momentary danger of close-ranged attacks so I took a shot for another ranged attack up close to pack a punch to the opponent Rhydon.

It was a perfect, critical hit but the Rhydon was still staggering and not out of commission as I wanted from the repeated water attacks.

"Bulldoze and then Steel whip." The Rhydon rushed as if there was no tomorrow and the Steel whip was on the spot to deliver the max damage to Totodile. "Iron tail" "Fall back, maneuver by Water gun dammit."

Iron tail again met with Totodile's head and he was out of action. It took less than 5 seconds to kick Totodile out of the game. Totodile had fainted.

"Totodile is unable to continue, round one goes to Flint from Pewter city gym," Forrest announced while raising the flag in Flint's direction.

I recalled Totodile and passed his Pokeball to Chancey. I hope he isn't hurt seriously, with the Iron tail on his head and all that.

Fortunately, Totodile did his work, I am proud of him for him to kick Rhydon nearly out of commission despite being trained for less than two months.

Rhydon was staggering, with his attacks, I estimate his levels are in the late 30s, so I am indeed proud of my Totodile.

The ice was meting due to the sun on top of us, which should help Ivysaur to some extent.

I held Ivysaur's pokemon and murmur quietly for him to go down, and a second later a white staggering light placed Ivysaur in the arena."

"IVY Saur SAUR!!!" "Yeah, But he did good work."
