Dining Room

I sit across from Vaskar and watch him down glass after glass of gin. The man is a bottomless pit when it comes to spirits. At one point, I had found that attribute endearing. Now, it is edging on my nerves. He is still a wonderful beast in bed despite his vices.

“I ordered you to keep an eye on Julien and that girl. Yet here you are with nothing to tell me?”

“Jo, there’s nothing to tell. At least not at this time. I’ve given you everything that may be of use.”

“Then give me what you THINK will not be useful. At this moment, I know that she attends college and goes to a church in Annapolis. She has a single close friend, her parents are dead, and she’s a lightweight. I need you to dig deeper. I’m curious as to why Julien is so enamored with her.”

“You never showed such an interest in me, Jo. I may become jealous that you’re giving Julien so much attention.”
