Chapter 49: A Proposed Deal

A long moment passed as Megan considered Leslie. A fight still wasn't out of the question, but the lack of tension in the other woman's form made her think that either she was well protected from violence or that she was not intending to engage in it. Possibly both.

“So you're trying to entice me with more of these chips, even though all that has happened since I slotted the first one is that people have tried to kill me,” Megan said.

“Is that all? Have you not also gone on adventures, gained great benefits – including the ability to survive those adventures – made a fair amount of money, gained some fine equipment, and perhaps even gained some fair power of your own?”

“None of which would have been necessary if I hadn't thought someone was trying to kill me. And by someone, I specifically mean you.”

“Is that was the raid on Deltro's home was?” Scarlet asked. “Was it revenge?”

Megan nodded. “A chance to strike back, yes.”

“So you didn't even know I had the black chip there?”
