Playing by Proxy

Can a game be a dream come true? Jorah has found a world where he can be Megan Proxy, exploring his own gender identity even while exploring a cyberpunk world that is more than it seems. Something in the world isn't working quite right, but is that a product of the game, or of the fact that the game is using his brain as a mainframe for its processing? Will he be able to enjoy living as a woman, or will he be too busy trying to avoid getting killed for the things that he finds while he takes on the role of Megan? Will the secrets that she uncovers be enough to keep her alive, or will he have to process the loss of his female self so soon after finding a way to finally indulge her? Chapter 45: Am I Who I Always Am?

Standing and looking at himself in the mirror, Jorah had a brief wondering about reality. It went back to something that Megan figured out last night. Megan has been wondering about the other version of herself, about the real world version. She's been wondering about Jorah. She hasn't found any way of, in her terms, hacking the system and figuring out who the real her was, but it brought to mind a few strange thoughts.

The first night he'd played as Megan, she'd had no idea that the world she was in wasn't the real world. She'd existed under the assumption that her life, what was happening to her, was all that there was. What if he had kept things that way, hadn't moved the slider over even a tiny bit? Would she ever have figured out that she wasn't a real person? Would she have lived, content in the knowledge that she was all that there was, that any other world she went to was just a dream?
