Chapter 32: Leslie Scarlet Strikes Back

It was more than just the loyalty index. She watched as Conrad was put into contact with Sharon Hill, and as his place of residence was changed. Not randomly, either. Within a few minutes, Conrad had, according to the system, always lived in the apartment Megan had searched the day before.

On a whim, she went over and looked at Leslie Scarlet's file. Leslie had never lived at that address, and had in fact always lived in one of the executive towers, just a few floors below whoever she had worked for. She had been forced to move when she was reassigned to Proclaw, but that was long enough ago that there was no reason to suspect her. Of anything.

Even the report that she had filed with To-Soren was changed. It now read that Conrad Deltro was the mole. Someone was protecting her, and was shifting the blame to someone else. Blame that was now going to lead, in all likelihood, to Conrad Deltro's death at the hands of a retention specialist.
