“I suppose you’ve seen everything on the main street,since you’ve been working here,”Ethan says.
“What do you do all day?”I blurt,as usual not thinking of a tactful way to approach any subject.
“I work as a chandler,”says Ethan.“A candle maker.I’m not much use at physical labor because of my leg,but my best friend’s father is a candle maker and I’ve been working with him for three months now.”
“Sounds interesting,”I say.“So you didn’t want to go to college?”I love asking questions of strangers that are too personal.
“I can’t decide whether to carry on with candle-making or go to college.I’m only nineteen,so I suppose there’s still time for me to go if I want.So what about you?Have you always aspired to be a dressmaker or did you have other plans?”
