THE 16TH ACCOUNT: THE END OF MY ADVENTURE? 5

The next morning, Prince Eric called for me to accompany him around Fildas. I complied. There were two reasons why: One, so Eric would not suspect my intention to escape, and Two, so I could determine my escape route. I brought Brenlyn with me to meet the prince. I also wanted her to see the city so we could plan the escape together.

However, that plan did not work. Eric creased his forehead after seeing Brenlyn. "She won't be accompanying you," he told me.

I held my breath, "But I should be chaperoned, shouldn't I?" I insisted.

Eric shook his head, "You weren't chaperoned for two years when you went sailing with the pirates. Therefore, you need not be chaperoned with me."

I felt Brenlyn gripped my hand tighter. Eric saw that sudden movement so he gave me a warning look.

I turned to Brenlyn, "I'll be fine," I said as I took my hand from her grasp.

"Are you sure, milady?" she asked me again.
