Leo powered down the window.

Caleb, having been wearing sunglasses, took them off and put them in his pocket. “The department received a call about a guy sitting his car near the park. Is everything okay, Leo?”

There were kids laughing and playing at the swing set Leo had occupied just a day or two ago. The woman with them, most likely their mother, kept glancing in their direction. Leo hadn’t realized being at the community center was a crime, though he could see how he might look sketchy.

“Leo?”

“I found this.” He held up the pink shirt he’d been clutching.

Caleb’s brow furrowed. He stepped back from the car, beckoning to Leo. “Step out, tell me about it.”

Reluctantly, Leo unsnapped his seatbelt and climbed out. Exhausted, he immediately sank down on the edge of the sidewalk. Maintaining hold of Highlander, Caleb sat beside him.
