I shoved my hands into my pockets to hide my clenched fists. Aaren was going to do what he wanted, regardless of what I, or anyone else, wanted. Arguing with him was like trying to skin a live porcupine without getting jabbed–impossible.
I heard Aaren telling Selene that she would be confined to the playroom and then their voices faded out into white noise. I knew Aaren was trying to play it safe but so much of this felt wrong. She didn't belong here, not with us. She was the enemy's daughter.
Not only that, but she was Arthur's loyal dog, no matter what lies she spun. I didn't trust her as far as I could spit.
She pretended as if she hated Arthur, but she still did his bidding and seemingly without question. I couldn't wrap my head around why she would come to us to help her kill him. Why did she want to give us his empire? What did she really have to gain in the end?
