Chapter 5

Jane had gone out for a walk, with the permission of Harper and Omar. The siblings were at school. Jane was at her hideout, she put the suit under her regular clothes. While training with one hand one of her monitors started beeping. There was a bank robbery in progress, she quickly took the arm sling off and jumped into action. When she arrived the thieves were just coming out of the bank. There were three of them, they tried running past her. However, she tripped the first one, and the other two tried attacking her. She disarmed one and used him as a shield against the last one. He didn't want to shoot his own friend so instead he ran at her. She knocked out the guy she was holding and flipped out the guy that was running. At this time the cops were arriving, Jane quickly escaped, leaving the three thieves on the floor for the cops.

When she returned to her hideout her shoulder was in pain and she took a few painkillers. She put her regular clothes on and put the arm sling back on. She made her way back to the house.

By the time she arrived, the family was home. Once Harper saw Jane she called everyone to the living room. "I was thinking that this family isn't united, and I have decided that we are going to family therapy," she told them. They stayed silent, they did not seem to care. "That's a great idea, Mom," Jess said. "Thank you, I'm glad someone agrees." "That's not a good idea," Xavier expressed his honest opinion. "Really?" Harper asked. "I don't think it's a good idea either. Why didn't you talk to me about this first?" Omar asked. " Well, I made this decision. Plus I don't know what's been going on with you and Jane but because of it, I doubt she would listen to anything you have to say," she explained. "What does this decision have to do with Jane, she's not family," Xavier said. Harper looked at him surprised, Omar had no reaction. Jess however was angry, "HOW,..." "I agree, I agree with him. I shouldn't be here," Jane jumped in before things could get worse.

"We're all a family, and we're going to therapy, together. That is why the therapy session will be in a few weeks. By then Jane's shoulder will be fully healed," Harper told them authoritatively. Everyone was shocked, she had left them all speechless. "Do you all understand?" Harper wanted them to confirm that they would do as she said. They nodded in agreeance.

Later that day Jane received a call from Officer Lenny asking to meet in person. She met him at a coffee shop nearby. When Jane arrived she saw Officer Lenny and sat across from him. "How can I help?" She as soon as she sat down. "Straight to the point, okay. I need your help with a case. I need you to find out whatever you can about this guy, I wouldn't ask if I had any other choice," he handed her a case file. Inside was a picture of a man named Dato Fermore and his file. "He doesn't have much on him. Dig up as much as can, at this point any small detail can help," Jane's interest piqued. "Am I allowed to ask why?" she asked. "Well, this twelve-year-old girl reported being...by him. Sadly it's a minor's word against an adult's" he told her. "I'll do everything in my power to help in any way I can. That's a promise," she promised him. This was now the only thing Jane could think about. "Take the file it's a copy. Also, could you keep this…." "Confidential, yeah I know we're not supposed to let anyone know about the case, and this is pretty illegal," Jane confirmed.

Jane was locked in her room, with a copy of the case files in hand. She had been pacing back and forth for a while, reading over every single detail. Every time she read it things would not add up to her. She knew she had been messing something but she could not tell what it was. She had been so focused that she overlooked the time. It was dinner time and someone had knocked on Jane's bedroom door to tell her dinner was ready. She hid the files in her bedroom and then joined the family for dinner.

"I was thinking we could all write down something we want to know or want the family to work on," Harper suggested. She handed each of them a piece of paper and told them, "Write them down and we'll answer them when we get there." "Doesn't the therapist give us homework when we go?" Xavier asked. "Yes, but I was thinking we could get started." "I think it's a great idea," Jess said excitedly. " I'm glad someone appreciates my efforts," Harper exclaimed. "Fine I'll do it," Xavier gave up. "Good, we can ask them when we go." Omar quickly wrote something down and flipped the paper over. "See someone has already started," Harper said referring to Omar, he smiled at her.

Dinner was finished, it was just Jane and Jess. It was their turn to clean up. Jane was on the opposite side of the table as Jess. While Jess was placing some dishes in the sink she heard Jane sigh. "What?" Jess asked. "What?" Jane was puzzled at what she was asking. "You sighed, what's going on?" "What?" Jane was still perplexed. "What are you thinking of right now," Jess attempted to make it direct but simple for Jane to understand what she was asking. "I….I was. My. Umm…" Jane tried to express but was having trouble wording and expressing herself. Jess turned to face her and asked," When was the last time someone asked you?" Jane stayed silent. "I thought so. Why don't you try phrasing it as a statement or start slow? By stating things that are relevant to it," she suggested as she leaned her behind against the edge of the sink.

"Harper and Xavier disagree with the therapy," Jess nodded for her to continue. "Do you think Harper is right? Or Xavier?" Jane asked as she grabbed the orange juice. "I appreciate Harper's efforts and she has good motives, but I don't think she's going to go through with it," Jess responded. "Oh, well I think Xavier has a point." "What? I get why Xavier doesn't want to go, he's Xavier. Thinks he's the perfect child. But why don't you want to go?" Jess decided to drop Jane not being a part of the family topic. Jane herself some orange juice in a cup. " I don't talk about the things I've experienced not because I can't." she took a sip of the orange juice. Jess wanted to say something about the orange juice, but it was too late Jane had already taken a sip. "It's because if you guys knew the things that happened, you guys wouldn't be able to look at me," Jane explained. "Um, Jane, that's not you're cup…. it's mine."

"Oh, that explains, that makes… Wait," Jane walked in front of Jess and put her right hand against the edge of the sink. Jess was now worried, confused, and nervous as to what was happening. "What are you…," Before Jess could ask, Jane sniffed her breath. "How is it that we just ate dinner yet your breath smells like strawberry?" Jane was trying to find the logic behind it. Jess smiled and looked at Jane. "What?" Jane asked. "Nothing," Jess realized that Jane was finally feeling comfortable around her. It felt like she had let down a layer of the many layers of the walls she had built up.

"Speaking of, did Harper ever talk to you?" Jess asked. "No, why?" "I told her to ask you about the drug thing. I guess she wants you to tell her or doesn't want to know," Jess stated. "Maybe she wants to forget it. We need to finish cleaning," Jane said. "Right, you still don't have to it if you don't want to," she referred to her only being able to use one hand. "I want to."

Later at night, Jane went to Dato's apartment with a hoodie over her suit. He lived in a bad neighborhood, which only made things harder. People keep to themselves, they are aware if they help the wrong person they could end up dead or worse. Even if they saw something terrible they could never admit it. They account for their own survival. Jane searched everywhere inside his apartment but nothing. With the state of his apartment, she would only be able to prove that he's a drug addict and that he has bad hygiene. Either way, she took pictures to show the officer.

As she was walking home she spotted a few people picking on what looked like a teenage boy. She went into the shadows and took her hoodie, revealing her suit, arrows, and bow. From the top of a building, she shot a warning shot at those people. Hitting a wall next to them, after grazing one on them. After they saw she had a bow and more arrows they ran for their lives. The boy looked up at her and said," Thank you so much, who are you?" "Blood Archer," she used her voice changer to hide her voice. He smiled, and then she disappeared.
