"Okay class, I hope you all took good notes." Said Anadama, wrapping up yet another eventful class lecture. The class wished they could've called it productive, but most of it was him explaining concepts they all should've already known if they were even extended an invitation to the academy in the first place. So most believed him to be doing this to waste their time. "Anyway, I'd like you all to do some quick baking before you leave."
With that, he left them to their usual task of creating a small treat for him to grade and show them how to refine their process. As this was what he considered the fundamentals of baking, where doing this right makes doing more complex recipes as was asked during exams to be much easier.
"I swear this is always the most boring part." Chiffon lamented to Kosaki as she waited for her small cake to bake in the oven. "This guy is always treating us like we're kids."
"I think he just wants to make sure we don't forget about the little details." Kosaki defended him. While she also wasn't entirely certain on his plan. She did know that many great bakers had come out of this school and talked highly of it from her research online. Of course they might've been talking about Anadama's father, but some did mention the boy specifically.
"Also to remind everyone." Anadama spoke up when there was a quiet bit as everyone had been waiting on their ovens. "The principal is present and will be here shortly. I assume some of you would like to speak with him as you might not have even met him. But even for those who have already introduced yourselves, you should take the opportunity." He would then mutter the following under his breath. "Who knows when he'll just up and leave again."
His announcement got many of the students murmuring, as they were interesting seeing his father again. Kosaki was one of those students, where despite meeting him briefly before, she never had the opportunity to get to know the man who suggested she go to the academy. He was the one who changed her life, so she needed to understand what he saw in her.
His arrivial would take time though. For the more important matter was for Anadama to try out everyone's baked goods and give them an assessment. When he got to Kosaki's counter, he took a bite of her cookies while staring intently at her. "You seemed to have grasped the lessons well." He commented as he finished it off. "You're free to go." With that, he walked away to continue his job.
She sighed in a mix of relief and disappointment. After what she had done to discover his secret, Kosaki couldn't help but have concern she might've ruined things between them. She broke any semblance of trust he might've had for her and had also made him more paranoid on what she might do about his secret love of romance books. She knew she was good with secrets because of how well she did for Raku and Chitoge's fake relationship, but there was no way he'd know that.
"There he is." Someone pointed the principal out after Anadama had completed his rounds. The young man took that cue to leave, where everyone else more or less gathered around the head of the school without a care in the world.
"There's a lot of people." Kosaki commented on how the whole class had been trying to say something to him. It put into perspective just how large the student body was, at least since this wasn't just merely a classroom, but an entire student body for the academy. "Maybe I can just try talking to him when we get back to the mansion." She did stay right where he lived, so it wasn't as if it would be impossible for her to see him. The only issue was that despite this situation, Kosaki hadn't seen Mr. Miyanagi around whatsoever since his apparent return.
"You can't give up that easily." Chiffon encouraged her to try and work her way through the crowd. "People are going to leave eventually." Though they didn't have to wait long for others to go before she was able to meet with him again.
"Ah." He was the one who dropped what he was doing upon seeing her. "Kosaki Onodera, it's nice to see you again." He took her hand and quickly shook it. "I hope our newest student is adjusting well here." When Anadama had mentioned he got his blonde hair from his mother, he wasn't kidding. Mr. Miyanagi distinctly looked Japanese, which was no surprising considering his name.
"It's nice to see you again too." She replied meekly. Being in the center of attention was not something Kosaki wished to have. The only time she would've been okay with it was when she was set to play as Juliet during her school play. But that was only because of the boy she assumed she'd be playing opposite to before an unfortunate accident.
Mr. Miyanagi was a far cry compared to his own son. There was warmth in his voice and he happily talked with everyone kindly. Were Anadama in the same situation, he likely would've had biting remarks for everyone in the room.
"Since you live in the mansion, I hope you've been getting along with my son and servant." He continued on.
"It's been nice." She answered. While most wouldn't consider her interactions with Anadama to be great. Kosaki also couldn't say he was as bad as everyone else made him out to be.
"Ha, you might be the first person to say that." He chuckled. She couldn't believe people would be so honest about their disdain of him to his father, but this was a strange new world for her. "Anyway, does anyone else have any questions?" It was impossible for her to continue to stay being the center of attention. Which was good as Kosaki preferred the opposite.
"How about the two of us head out and enjoy LA a little bit?" Chiffon wasn't as interested in seeing Mr. Miyanagi compared to the rest of her classmates. So now that Kosaki had gotten a chance to converse with him, she was more interested in leaving the kitchen and finding some entertainment. "I hear some of the parks have some great street performers."
"I suppose I don't need to stick around anymore." Kosaki agreed on following, but only because she had nothing better to do.
The two girls exited the class to go out into the middle of Los Angeles as it bustled with heavy traffic both on the roads and sidewalks. Because of the numerous people, it took longer than she expected for them to get to the park, but getting there was worth the effort as she saw the variety of those providing entertainment for nothing but tips and the hopes of hitting it big.
"Great, there's a vending machine nearby." Chiffon commented as she took some money out to choose out a refreshing drink. "Sorry it might not be like back in Japan, but is this tea alright?"
"It'll be fine." Kosaki did prefer vending machines back home as they had a larger variety for her to select of drinks she liked. However she understood Americans had different tastes, so she would try to get used to it.
A shame that what Chiffon got her was rather mediocre, but she wouldn't be making any complaints.
"You know…" Her friend spoke up as they sat down on a bench to enjoy the show. "I have to ask you this. But do you find Anadama hot or something?"
"Where did this come from?" Kosaki was caught off guard by such a personal question. "I thought we already talked about this?" It had been brought up once when they were going to the party, but Chiffon never made the direct statement.
"Yeah, and you keep going after him like you like him or something." She took a sip of her soda. "You shouldn't throw yourself at some guy just because you think he's cute."
"He's not really my type." Though when Kosaki thought about it, she never stopped to consider what her type even was. Of course as she grew up having a crush on Raku. She could assume he was exactly her type. If this were the case, then Anadama would fit the bill as they looked rather similar. The most defining difference being their hair color.
But he was also a popular guy, so it should be no surprise that he was good looking. She shook off the thoughts on her potential attraction as it would be inappropriate to have any feelings for her teacher anyway. "Why would that be the reason you jump to anyway? I only want to be friends with him. There's nothing strange about it, is there?"
"Something tells me you're really bad at conflict." It was funny for Kosaki to hear that. Anadama had described her as something similar as well. "What's wrong with hating a guy who deserves it?"
"But I don't hate him." She took a swig of her tea, though only to keep up appearances to not waste what Chiffon got for her. "And to be honest, I don't think he really hates any of us either."
"Ha!" Chiffon couldn't help but laugh loudly at the suggestion. "I never took you for a joker, saying some real out there things."
"Heh, sure." Though she put on a smile, Kosaki did wish the others could see what she saw in him. It wasn't some form of attraction, but she did having the desire to continue to be with him. Someone where she had this whole song and dance of learning something new each and every day. Where nothing he revealed made her want to run away or avoid him.
Yet it seemed so one-sided to her as well. He gave hints about who he was, but she didn't give him much in return. Was it really fair for her to not share as much about herself to him? While in fairness he hadn't been interested in learning more about her. There was nothing stopping her from talking about herself.
But how could she even do that?
