Chapter 9: Testing & learning

(3rd person pov)

As Xander sat down taking a deep breath he finally prepared himself for the excitement he felt, then he went into the virtual world.

When he first arrived into the world it looked like he was out in the middle of a forest with a cottage in front of him.

What he was expecting was more of a world of ones and zeros flowing in all sorts of ways and them all somehow being connected.

After looking around he decided that he should go into the cottage and see if there was anything in there.

Entering the cottage he saw that it was more of a resting place and a possible place where you could choose the game you wanna go into, the reason he thought of this was because there was a couch on one side with a TV across from it, and on the other side was some board.

Before he could take another step into the cottage a login screen popped right in front of him and he felt some sort of resistance pushing him back, not letting him take any more steps.

Seeing this he realized that he didn't put any of his actual information into the Neural Nano-Interface and kind of just dove into it.

Completing sign into the Neural Nano-Interface and setting his account as the main one Xander continued exploring the cottage.

Going to sit on the couch Xander saw that on the table you could control the place that he was in and change it if you wanted to, he could change his location to be in a city or next to the ocean.

The only thing he decided to change was the weather and he made it constantly snowing since he found it comforting.

(Xander pov)

After relaxing a little bit in the cottage I decided that it was time to do something else besides being lazy, getting up from lying down on the couch I decided to go over to the board to see how it worked and what it could do.

Approaching the board I looked closely at it, and when I finally got up to it there was a shop and game-owned tab.

Seeing this I immediately opened the shop then typed in the information on the card that stored all the money that I owned so that I wouldn't have to worry about forgetting to do it.

As I was finishing typing in the information that I needed, I went to the shop and got the two games that I saw when I was looking through all kinds of games that the Neural Nano-Interface had on it.

One of the games was to help with combat, the other one was to help understand human anatomy and try surgeries, or how to identify illnesses. After thinking for a bit I thought that I should try to go to the combat area and try to get used to my body.

Although the body in the game is identical to my real life I have never really gotten used to my body or never pushed it to its limits. Also, I do not know if the virtual body will be any different or if it will be the same.

Deciding to click on the game everything flashed black for a second, and before I arrived I had to make sure to thank myself for changing the standard white flash into a black flash it is now.

If I didn't do that then I may have been on the ground crying from the flash bang it would have caused me.

Starting to think about all of the other people who may have fallen into the flash-bang trick. I decided to give them a quick prayer and make sure to give them a rest in peace even though they couldn't hear me.

Opening my eyes from praying to the fallen ones I looked down at my hand and saw that it was black, as I continued to look around I saw that everything was black and white. In Front of me, there was a play screen.

When I was done looking around and observing all of my surroundings I decided to hit play, after hitting play three windows came up. The windows were player vs bot, player vs player, and training.

Seeing all of this I thought about how this game reminded me of a "Stickman fighting" game from my previous life. After my thoughts, I went to play the game and I decided to go into training to try and get better control of my body and to see how fast I could run since I have never been able to run at my fastest without coughing blood out.

When I spawned I was placed in a 20ft by 20ft fighting arena with ropes all around it so that there could be no running away from each other. Before picking a weapon to try and use I decided that I should get used to my body.

The first thing I did was run around to get used to how my body moved and functioned. After about 5 minutes of running around and getting fully adapted to my body, I decided that I should go practice against a bot and see how fast my learning and adaptability are.

Going out of the training and returning to the home screen of the game I clicked on the player vs bot this time. When I clicked bot vs player the first thing that appeared was what weapons we would use, and I decided the first thing I should learn was hand-to-hand combat.

Deciding on what I wanted I clicked on hand-to-hand combat, a screen of what martial arts I wanted to use, seeing how many options there were I clicked on a random one, and what I landed on was mixed martial arts.

Seeing what I landed on I had no clue what in the world it was and I was desperately hoping that it would give me an explanation of it or I would have to learn it while fighting, which probably wasn't the best idea but I thought it was possible.

Before leaving this screen another notification came up and said "Choose difficulty newbie, beginner, advanced, master, grandmaster, and immortal." Seeing all of these difficulties I thought to myself what in the world is the difference between a newbie and a beginner, and what in the world is immortal?

Ignoring my thoughts, I clicked on newbie difficulty since I thought that It would teach me how to fight instead of just throwing me into a cold ocean.

Arriving in the same arena I was in during the training place, another black stickman figure appeared in front of me, when I was expecting him to run straight at me there was a sudden notification that appeared in front of me saying "Click when ready."

Taking in a deep breath and relaxing I clicked on ready, to my continuous unluckiness he rushed straight at me and there were no instructions so I was prepared to get my butt handed to me.

To my surprise, my body swiftly reacted to the punch that was approaching my face. As the bot's left hand reached out for my face I used my left hand to parry to the left and deflected his attack before hitting me.

After the quick shock of my body reacting to the attack I decided to just let my body guide me through the motion and I would follow through with it.

I decided that I should take a step back and watch how he moved his body so that I could try to imitate what he was doing so that I learn a combat style instead of just relying on my body's reaction.

 ( 2 hour Time Skip)

It took me about 8 minutes to fully learn the basics of mixed martial arts and easily defeat the newbie and move on to the beginner.

The only difference between the two was that the beginner bot was faster than the newbie one and it didn't make as many mistakes while in combat.

Surprisingly it didn't take me long to get completely used to it and I was able to defeat it constantly and consistently in about 12 minutes.

Getting tired of just fighting I decided that I should spend time learning medicine and how to do surgeries and that took up 1 hour and 40 minutes.

After seeing what time it was I decided that I had enough of experimenting and trying out the Neural Nano-Interface experience today and thought I should go and make dinner which would be frito pie since I haven't had it in a while, then after I would head off to bed to start the next day.
