Chapter 1

About 11 years ago...

"I don't want to be Megan!" Luciandre crossed his arms, glaring at Derik.

"Come on, Andri! You're always Megan," Derik insisted, "I'm Nathan, and Jennabel and Adelliette are our daughters Jessica and Addison! That's how it is every time we play."

"Exactly Riki!" Luciandre agreed.

"Wha- I thought you-" Derik stuttered confused- 'so annoying, I'm stuttering in front of Andri'

"I'm always playing Megan! Why can't Jenni or Avi play Megan? Mom doesn't like me dressing like a girl."

"But if you switch with Jennabel or Adelliette you would still be a girl," Derik pointed out.

"That's why I'll be Nathan."

Adelliette, who had just come out from putting on a fluffy princess dress, stepped in. After an argument over who would be playing Nathan, the kids voted and Derik got to keep his role.

"That's so unfair," Andri complained, "Jenni likes Riki, so she would vote for him."

Derik shook his head, "If Jennabel liked me, then she would've voted for you. That way she could be Megan. Besides, you'd volunteered to be Megan the first time we played."

"That was because Megan is married to Nathan, and they hug! I can't have you hugging my sisters."

After they successfully forced Andri into Megan's evening gown, Jenni turned on the TV.

"Just in time! Come on, everyone, positions!" Avi called out, and the TV screen began to play...

a soap opera.

"As a recap of this episode... it is revealed that Megan no longer loves Nathan! Nathan tries to change her mind, but Megan takes her favorite daughter, Addison, and they leave the city. Nathan, however, is still hopelessly in love with Megan! Will he be able to find Megan and reunite with her? Or will he be left behind forever?"

After they watched the episode a few more times, Avi passes out the script.

"Thank goodness your dad owns VARYN Entertainment, Derik, or else we wouldn't be able to watch ahead or get the scripts of Megan's Life!" Jenni remarked as she circled out the words she didn't know.

Derik gave a smug smile, and they proceeded to do a reenactment of the episode. It went fairly smoothly since they did this often, but this scene had required Megan to run crying, which Andri was unable to do.

"Think of something really sad," Derik suggested, "look, if I think about Cherrimuffins dying, then *sniff* I *sniff*" all the kids started crying as they thought about the death of the tolerant and fluffy Cherrimuffins.

"It's all your fault *sniff* where's Cherribagels *sniff* I can't stop crying," Andri ugly cried, and he grabbed Cherrimuffin's kitten and cuddled with it. His sisters and best friend all came over to hug Cherribagels, and they started to cry even harder.

A week ago, Cherrimuffins was put to sleep. The kids had been devastated about it and cried whenever they thought about it. Their parents had been dealing with random bouts of sobbing and would have to take them to Cherrimuffin's grave for them to stop.

There was knocking on the door, and a teary-eyed Jenni went to open it.

"Daddy?" She looked confused since they had arranged a sleepover with Derik.

"Time to go home, Jenni," Taryn picked up Jenni but was tackled by Andri and Avi.

"Dad, what are you doing here? Jenni has to stay for our sleepover."

"Ah, Avi sweetie, Jenni has to go take her vitamins." Jenni was really weak when she was born, and needed extra nutrients to grow.

"Oh. Are we going home then?" Andri stared up at his dad, puzzled over the fact he was taking home Jenni but not him and his sister.

"Your mom is going to pick you up. Uh.." Taryn wasn't sure how to explain the divorce to his 6-year-old son, "your mom will tell you what's going on later."

He bent down to hug his kids a last time and kissed the top of their heads. "You know Daddy loves you right?"

Avi and Andri bid their sister goodbye as they went back to play with Derik. They needed someone to play Jessica now, but only Derik's caretaker was home, and she was making dinner so they couldn't bother her.

Not long after, the driver pulled up to take Avi and Andri home. Little did they know it would be over a decade before they would be reunited here again.
