Chapter 4: Fairies Exist?

walk down the path for a few miles my feet are a little sore from the walking, but I stop a few times along the way making sure to stay hydrated. I brought some rations with me, and I had made sure to bring a flask with a good amount of fresh water in it for the journey. Hunting was gonna be a bit of a challenge later with only my wooden sword, but for now I had enough provisions. I walked along the dirt path, and as I walked I started to think about how little I knew of the world I lived in. I mean I had lived in the same town my entire life I had little knowledge of the places, and other races that lived on Zonus.

I also quickly noted how deserted it was out here I mean I had seen a few wild animals, but no sighs of life anywhere else. It was later in the evening now, and the sun was scorching down searing my skin I would have to take cover in the trees again. I took another break to get out of the sun since I was worried about my skin getting burned from the mid afternoon heat. I rested under a tree, but not even a few minutes under cover I jolted up again. I heard a small yell almost childlike in origin, but yet unnaturally powerful for a young child.

I followed the noise closer up the path through a clearing in the trees I saw the origin of the disturbance. I saw a giant rabbit about the size of a dog with large fangs extending outside its face I was used to tiny little harmless rabbits this was no vegetarian. The monster rabbit was jumping up at a small humanoid creature blood red eyes it was snapping at the small creature. The small creature looked like something out of a book it had small black wings, had a purple robe on like a shrine maiden, had a ominous necklace around its neck. I could make out that it was a very tiny woman with red marks on both of her cheeks indicating some kind of symbol. The woman was tiny about the size of my hand, she had short red hair, but a refined mature face for her body size. The tiny woman was holding a small tree branch trying to fend off the feral creature albeit to little effect.

The little woman hadn't noticed me yet she was focused on the rebid animal in front of her, so I could just walk away. My body however never considered this a choice since I was already holding my wooden sword I inched closer to the rabbit. The woman finally took notice of me she yelled out, "Human! Stop! Don't try to interfere you can't beat that thing with a wooden sword are you out of your mind?" I acting before thinking carefully I took a swing towards the rabbit only to have it quickly leap out of the way. What how could it have dodged so quickly the beast now locked eyes with me it would seem I had become its next target.

The monster flew at me faster than I could move my body it was lunging for my face I had just enough time to block it with my wooden sword. The wood snapped, and flew in all directions the monster flew back after its attack to prepare for another strike. I was dead without my sword I wouldn't be able to block another blow from this little bastard. I was prepared to take a hit the bastard leapt at me with blinding speeds I dodged out of the way just in time to avoid a fatal blow. The side of my ribs had taken a bite I was bleeding now pretty profusely this was looking bad I was loosing a lot of blood, and fast. I couldn't afford to die here dammit I picked up the point of my wooden sword waiting for the bastard to strike.

The rabbit didn't hesitate to respond in kind it flew towards my face again, but I was ready for it to go for a decisive hit. I took the blade that had broken off I slammed it into the rabbits body as hard as I could, but it did little in the way of damage. The rabbit turned its body midair somehow it avoided a cortical hit all I had managed to do was graze it. Unfortunately for me that basically just served to piss the rabid animal off more once it landed it geared up to ponce again. I was out of options at the very least I hope I was at least able to help that creature get away the blood loss made me fall onto a nearby tree.

The small woman finally spoke up in my haze I made out the words, "Stupid human don't try to protect others when you are unable to even protect yourself." I felt the little woman touch my head with her hand I felt a strange power flow into my body is this magic? I heard her chanting something in a strange foreign language suddenly I felt a power I had never felt before. The remaining fight felt slower than anything I had experienced the rabbit charged at 1/4 the speed I could see its muscles contracting in great detail. I had heard that sometimes when someone is in a state of extreme concertation time can seem to slow down.

The person can enter a flow state which I can assume is also enhanced even further when one is in a life of death situation. I also felt extremely powerful I think the little woman enhanced me to some degree because I felt better than before the fight had started. I took what remained of my broken sword and watched the rabbit fly through the air I waited until the rabbit was closer. I used all my strength to wind back a hit with both hands I smacked the rabbit as hard as I could. I had hit him easily since he felt like he was going extremely slow, and the blow landed on his side cleanly.

The blow sent the rabbit flying into a nearby tree I heard a snap of some branches the rabbit was down it seemed to have broken a few bones. The little bastard didn't seem to be down for the count though this feral thing flew at me again at full speed. It was a distance away still, so the little woman called out to me, "The throat! Human hit it in the throat it will be a fatal." I winded back again as I had before the flow state had dissipated a bit, but it would seem a few broken bones had halted the rabbits movements. The rabbit leap towards me again, and this time I slammed it directly in the throat the rabbit died instantly.

I had somehow separated its head from its body I knew I didn't have the strength to do that, but I would assume it was from the enhancement. I collapsed onto the ground I would of let out a giant yell in victory, but the wound on my ribs had opened back up. Dammit I won, but that little bastard had dealt a fatal blow I would die in a few minutes if left untreated. I guess it would seem the enhancement from the woman had only been temporary once it wore out I was dead. I can't believe I couldn't even make it a day outside of town without ending up like this. I was so sick of being powerless how could a human survive in a world of such dangerous monsters.

The woman glanced down at me her expression that of shock, "Human what is your name?" I had at least managed to help out this small creature I chocked out, "Kreyol Mallory at your service." I flashed the woman a smile, and the pain no longer felt as dire instead I felt hot is this what it meant to die. The woman seemed to be pondering something as I lay dying I closed my eyes presumably for the last time. The woman sighed I could barely hear what she was saying, but I made out, "Will have to do."

The woman touched my body with her small hands sensation returned to my body I felt the extreme pain of my wound. I jolted up she was looking at me sternly like a mother about to scold her child, "Kreyol Mallory do you want to live." I looked up at the woman she had a strong face on, but also appeared apprehensive. I let out a pained laugh, "I think its too late for that if I think my chance to live ended the moment I stepped in to help you." The woman appeared to be deadly serious, "I disagree I believe you still have a purpose I can still save you, but I will need you to agree to something."

I started to get emotional dammit how uncool I wanted to live badly I wanted to save my father, and I wanted to get back at the angels for destroying my life. I squeaked out the words, "Agree to what exactly?" The angel said confidently, "A contract I will have you be my host in order to save your life we will fuse. My body is special once we fuse your wounds will slowly being to close, but if you agree to this contract we will be eternally fused as one." I laughed, "Is that all? I guess I don't have much of a choice then. I agree to these conditions, but I hope you make a nice house guest." The woman sighed, "I will take that as consent I can't believe I am doing this, but I will start the ritual."

The woman started chanting in a weird language again, and I started feeling hot again my entire body was now glowing. The woman also began to glow, and then she grabbed some blood from my wound she marked my arm in blood with a weird sigil. The mark began to get hot, and somewhat painful she turned into pure white light, and faded into the mark on my arm. I began to feel a powerful pain across my entire body pain unlike something I have experienced before. I yelled loudly, but then the pain quickly stopped as a faded into unconsciousness. I didn't know if I had passed out from the pain, or if I had actually died this time, but I had at least hoped when I woke up better things would await me.
