Chapter thirty : Lucifer

I watched Everly as Tori, my personal shopper talked to her. It was already Wednesday and we were supposed to attend a luncheon at my family home on Sunday. It'd already been five days since Everly started living here. And living alone for so long I hadn't realized how lonely I was. Over this time I'd got to know her even better. First and foremost she wasn't a morning person. I wondered how she made it to her early morning classes or her job, and not to forget she was a great cook. She could literally cook anything, and now I was addicted to it. Mostly my house keeper, Stefanie cooked my meals and on other days I tried to cook something edible from the ingredients. I headed back to the kitchen and grabbed one of the chocolate chip cookies Everly had baked in the morning. I didn't even realize I had a sweet tooth before eating the desserts she made. Whatever she made was delectable.

Tori was gone when I came back in the living room and Everly was sitting on the couch. "It went well?" I asked taking a bite of the cookie.

"Why didn't you tell me she was so blunt?" She asked.

I smirked. Tori, being the best in business, could be too blunt at times so she was not only my personal shopper but also my stylist. "That would've spoilt the fun."

She rolled her eyes and asked, "You're back early?"

"Yeah I finished up early." And that was a new thing for me. Earlier I didn't really care how long I stayed at the company but now I tried to get done with my work as soon as possible and get back home. "So how did it go at the café?"

She sighed and shook her head, "it was good for a few hours but the reporters crashed there and I had to leave early and I had to come back. Since I had nothing to do I went through every book in the study, looked around the place again and as I was on the verge of getting crazy Tori showed up. Then she went on about a few hundred things and she told me about Marcus. Wait how's Marcus? He isn't like her, is he?" She turned to me.

"No he's the complete opposite." I smiled.

She sighed in relief. "Oh I almost forgot, tomorrow I'll be leaving at seven in the morning. I have to be somewhere."

Seven? That was way before her waking time, "And where is that somewhere supposed to be?"

"Downtown," she said.

"What business do you have there?" I asked.

"It's kind of personal." Here comes the wall. It was going to be a long time before she starts talking about herself. I might know a lot about her but there were still some things that she refused to talk about. Moreover I couldn't force her as it would only end up with her rebuilding the walls around herself. I was certain that she would tell me eventually, and that day she'd also start being completely honest to herself.

"Okay, I'll drop you–"

"No! I'll go on my own. You don't have to drop me." She blurted.

"Everly it's still not safe out there. I'll drop you wherever you want to go." I said.

She stood up and looked down at me, "Lucifer I'll go there on my own. No discussions on that." Looking at her stance I made out this much that there was no way she was giving in. She sure could be stubborn at times. I sighed, "Fine, but make sure your cellphone is always close to you."

She grinned and nodded, "I'll prepare the dinner."

"I'll help you."

"Oh no last time you tried to help it didn't end well for the food. So it's good if you stay out of this." She smirked.

"Okay," I shrugged. To be honest I knew I'd be of no help to her, but I had to try. Seeing her cook in the kitchen was one of my favourite things to do nowadays. "But I'll serve the food." I had to at least do something.

"Fine but nothing more than that." She smiled and headed to the kitchen.

I always wondered how normal it felt, her staying in my home with me. Going through our daily chores we still managed to the eat dinner together. Seeing her light up while talking, listening to her laughs were the freaking highlights of the day. I took one last look at her and then headed to my room.

My feet took me to the kitchen as soon as I got down. Everly was busy with some kind of sauce and didn't notice when I slipped in. She moved back to grab something but couldn't find it, she looked around and opened a few cabinets. When she opened the upper cabinet she sighed and muttered, "Who put the oregano there?"

I smiled because it was me. She got on her tiptoes and extended her hand upwards but it was way beyond her reach. She tried again but ended up pushing it backwards. Sighing frustrated she turned around and her eyes landed on me, her eyebrows drew together and I smiled. I got into the kitchen and took down the oregano for her. "Who put it there?" She asked.

I pointed at myself. "Why?"

"Because it belongs there." I shrugged.

"Well now I'm the one doing the cooking so don't you go around changing their places." She pointed at me and then got back to the sauce.

"Okay I'll put them where you can reach them." I patted her head. She looked up at me with a small frown, I leaned down and kissed her nose. Her cheeks blushed slightly and she turned away. I smirked. Moving beside her I dipped my finger in the sauce she was preparing, she eyed me with a pretty scowl and looking into those beautiful green eyes I put it in my mouth. "Hey," she snapped and her cheeks reddened even further.

It was too easy to get her worked up. "It's good," I nodded.

"Get out of here." She put her hands on my back and tried to push me but I didn't budge. "Come on," she tried harder so I started walking.

Before she could completely push me out I turned around and with her momentum she collided with me . "Damn," she murmured rubbing her nose. I grabbed her waist and picked her up, she squealed, I sit her on the counter and looked at her, "You okay?" I asked.

"Yes." She snapped. I smiled and then caught her hand, her nose was slightly red. I leaned down and kissed it again, her eyes closed immediately. I hovered over her face until she opened her eyes. She gasped at the closeness as she opened them slowly, her breath caught up and I leaned in close to her ear, waiting for a moment as her breathing quickened, I blew on it lightly and felt a shiver rise through her body, not able to control myself anymore I burst out laughing. Damn I loved teasing her, she was so responsive. Her face bore all kinds of expressions and seeing her reactions was the icing on cake.

"You," she tried to push me away, "Get out of here now!"

I calmed myself, "Okay sweetheart." I helped her get down. I leaned down at her eye level, her face was all red, "I'll be in the study call me if you want help getting something down." She turned her head with all sass she got and I smiled, then straightening myself I headed to the study.

If I thought going to the study would help me get her out of my mind, I was fucking wrong. Now with her stuff in here too, her presence couldn't go unnoticed. As I settled down on the chair I could almost smell her lingering scent of vanilla and pure sweetness. The table was occupied by her books while my files and documents were shifted toward the sides. Thankfully it was big enough for both our stuff. I powered up my desktop and my eyes fell on a laptop that looked centuries old. I eyed it then couldn't help myself but pick it up. It was practically in its last days and could give out out any moment. Was she really using this for her work? I made a mental note that she needed a new laptop and carefully put it away trying not to break it and got to work.

There was a knock at the door after an hour so and Everly entered, "Dinner's ready, you done with your work?"

"Yeah," I looked up at her and got up. With her standing in the middle of my study I felt a strange feeling that I couldn't understand. This was much better than what I had imagined in my head. My life now was much better with Everly in it and I was intent on keeping it that way.
