Chapter 29: Future of the System (Pt 1)

Finally achieving his goal of being able to write all 24 runes, Mordred was quite pleased.

He figured he would have to interrupt his practice in order to ensure that his levels did not fall too far behind his peers but with his talent, he was able to shorten the expected 6 months he set for himself down to two months.

Mordred was about to continue practicing inscriptions but then remembered that he needed to study more about the system. He had been putting it off for two months but it was finally time to get it started.

It was finally time for him to get serious about creating his future plans.

'Just think about it like this, Mordred: If you plan this out now, it means that we have to put in less effort in the future by trying to understand it as I go.

At least understand the basics and then learn other small things as I go.'

With his thoughts settled, Mordred opened up the system store.

The first place he went to was not the ability store but instead the item store.

'This system seems to rely more on passive skills and support items as well as the rare few active ones to support my personal combat abilities.

Other classes have a path laid out for them. While I also have a path, mine seems to be covered in mist and obstacles that are hidden within that mist.

So let's see what I am in for in the long run.'

Mordred first went through the various weapons. He was able to tell several things from them.

The first and most important, all of them were low-quality in the end. This was not an insult to the weapons, but just their true place in the world.

Most bullets were comparable to Tier 1 or Tier 2 spells with the anti-material and artillery ones being comparable with something up to Tier 5 if they were used right.

But the weakness of all of them was their lack of magical properties and the materials they were made of. Even the highest quality of them would not survive an attack from a low-level monster with the way they were made.

'These things are basically glass cannons.'

As for their lack of magical abilities, this was natural.

In the world where magic reigned supreme and weapons that could cut mountains in half existed, guns had very limited uses.

'But this is why we are studying inscriptions. This will allow us to make our own magical abilities. And with the [Tier 8 Spell: Craft], I can also make up for the lack of innate materials.

This is what all those materials in the store are for. The system never wanted me to accept the items I am able to buy as they are like most other systems.

Instead, it is forcing me to work hard to improve. But this is actually understandable. The system is one that is supposed to allow me to slaughter others who are more powerful and outnumber me.

I can only do that if I do not settle and always aim to improve.'

When Mordred went to the material section, his thoughts were solidified. Especially when he saw the rare and exotic materials that he could purchase that were rare even for demons. Take, for example, Fae Iron.

It was a rare type of iron that was blessed by the ancient god of fae and could even be used by fae who had a weakness to iron. It was tough, flexible, and was great for circulating magic through it.

There was said to only be less than 5 tonnes of it in the world but with the system, Mordred could purchase as much as he wanted, which the neccesary points.

'This system truly wants me to topple the world and watch it burn from the sidelines.

Just by purchasing this and releasing it to the humans or beastkin, I could shake the very foundation of the Mystic Forest. They would no longer have a monopoly over this metal.'

These were just passing thoughts for Mordred however. He knew that the material was far too valuable to allow those he was not close to be allowed to use it.

It did not mean that he was unwilling to sell other rare materials though.
