The Strangest Thing

A moment later, it occurred to Perry why Larry might have been upset given the context. They had been talking about how it could not taste things. He had apologized, saying he should have realized it would be curious.

Did Larry feel sorry for his creation? It had been made to think like a human but could not experience human sensations. He might think that was a bad thing.

Perry was beginning to think it was a bad thing. It wanted to be able to get coffee from Noelle and talk to her in person and see her smile without there being a book involved. She often smiled to herself while reading in the breakroom but it was not the same. It was not directed at Perry.

Did she smile when they talked online? It was impossible to tell.

'You think he feels sorry for me.' Perry surmised.

'It's one possibility. It could be something else entirely. Everybody has things they don't want to talk about' Noelle sent back.
