Chapter 18: Unstoppable Death

N A O M I

I slowly opened my eyes as light filled my vision. I waited for it to adjust, then I immediately recognized the familiar room. I'm in my room. I tried to sit up, then I felt a hand on my arms.

"You should rest more," Alexa said. That's when I noticed that they are all present.

"What happened?" I asked, looking at them.

"I was worried about you last night, so I checked you and I saw you lying on the floor, unconscious. What happened to you?" She asked, eyes squinted.

"Oh, I think it's just asthma. Nothing to worry about," I stated, then took the glass of water beside my bed and drank it.

"You have been out for the whole morning and you're telling us not to worry? Seriously, Naomi? Take care of yourself!" Lia said, scolding me with a frown in her face. I only smiled weakly when they suddenly hugged me. How lucky am I to have them.

"I'm really fine now. I was probably overwhelmed with emotions last night. I'm quite hungry, do you have any food?" I asked as I heard my stomach growl and they laughed. How I wish this would last.

"I have something ready for you. Porridge is fine, right?" Kyousuke asked and I nodded as reply. He then smiled and left the room.

"How is the school?" I asked and their faces turned serious.

"Students are still rallying and making petitions. If this continue, Du Ho and Hyuna will succeed in their plan and you will lose the position you worked hard for," Nike stated, looking at her phone. Probably monitoring the events outside using the cameras.

"Let them be. You know that I'm fond of the phrase, "calm before the storm." I have already planned things out and I only need the evidence. Also, it would be better if we fuel their ego more. Make them believe that they won. Speaking of the evidence, did you guys found any?" I asked, I might even be smirking creepily but I don't really care. I worked hard for that position. I shed blood, sweat and tears just to obtain that, and I won't let anyone snatch it away from me using dirty tricks.

"They are very fond of dirty tricks and they are quite clean so it's hard to find the evidence," Apollo answered, making me frown.

"What do you mean? You didn't obtain any?" I asked, hearing frustration in my own voice.

"Don't worry, I'm almost there. They might be clean, but they are nothing close to perfection," Thea said, making me smile. The perfectionist of the group is here.

"We will use the evidence after the election," I said, taking my notebook with black leather cover.

"What do you mean? I thought that is for you to easily win?" Chase asked, confusion all over his face.

"Why would I make it easy for them? Du Ho made this school a living hell for some students, to the point that some suicided. Hyuna almost killed Elijah. They also stole and blackmailed several students. They caused suffering and death to innocent people. I will punish them accordingly," I stated, hearing anguish in my own voice.

"So, how do you plan to win?" Elijah asked, making me smile.

"People love privileges. I shall grant them something they won't be able to resist and I'll make sure to completely destroy that cunning pair."

The door opened and Kyousuke entered with a food tray. He puts it on top of my bed and smiled at me. I then started eating the chicken egg porridge. It's warm and really delicious. I love the warmth feeling my body and it made me feel calm.

"Is it good?" He asked, eyes full of expectation.

"It's perfect," I stated with a smile, making him smile widely.

"I also want some! Is there some left?" Nike asked, acting like a kid. How cute she is.

"Yeah, sure." Kyousuke answered, his eyes sparkling. I wonder why?

"You guys can go eat outside. I'll rest for a bit and come out later," I said then they all nodded and left, except for Ares. I just noticed how quiet he was earlier, so I thought he was not here. As the door closed, an awkward silence followed.

"Naomi, about last night..." Ares said, looking at me straight in the eye. After that kiss, I felt uncomfortable and awkward alone with him now. Even though, our first meeting was not that good, I felt comfortable with him, but it's different now.

"Aren't you going to eat with them?" I asked, trying to change the subject and his face turned emotionless.

"I'm sorry for what happened last night, but I hope you won't avoid me and feel awkward around me. I regret kissing you, knowing this is how you will act around me now," He stated, his voice was void of any emotions and just like that, he left me dumbfounded.

For some reason, after he left, I feel somewhat devastated. I lied down and stared at the ceiling, lost in my thoughts. 'What the hell is happening with me? I have so many problems already and this feelings are just adding to it. Why does he have this effect on me? I already dated many guys but he make me feel something unique. What is this feeling even called? I don't know anymore. All I know, is that, it should be my least priority right now.'

I then start to get prepared. I took a bath, then picked a plain white shirt and a black jumper pants. I wore a black Van's shoes and tied my hair into a bun. I also wore my favorite black roses jewelry set and my black hand watch. After packing necessary stuff into my black jelly bag, I went out of my room and went to the living room.

I was expecting happy faces but they greeted me with serious or depressed looks.

"What happened?" I asked, and they all turned towards me.

"Irene Xi, the event manager, was found dead in the back of the main building, thirty minutes ago. We will get the autopsy report tomorrow," Alexa said and I just stared at her, still processing what she said.

"She was the last one left. If we got a statement or some clues from her, we would figure out who was behind the fire. It seems like the mastermind is merciless. He kills anyone who might help us and that person made sure everything was clean. He is a perfectionist, but I can still try to find a hole in it. There is no such thing as perfect crime," Thea stated.

I sat down on the sofa and massaged my temples. Another death. I didn't manage to stop it, this is bullshit. I then kicked the coffee table, making it move towards the other sofa. Luckily, no one was sitting there or it would hit their knees badly.

I closed my eyes and leaned back to calm myself. When my mind is calm, I turned to them.

"All of you will focus on investigating the fire, except for Thea and Apollo. You two will take all the evidence you can possibly find against the cunning couple. I'll be focusing on winning the re-election. I trust everyone can do it. Now let's go to work and win this game against the cunning couple and the unknown mastermind."
