Nothing I Can Do

(criticism is welcomed) As per request from a reader, I will put a description: Ash has lived a sad life. Her mother abandoned her. Her father, with accusing cold eyes, blames her for what happened. Ash has lived in this world sad and broken. That is...until a certain girl throws her world upside down... (Note: I know it's short, but I don't want to spoil it too much. Also, it won't be completely sad, they'll be wholesome moments in there too. To make it authentic and stuff. Anyway, enjoy!)

The pounding came again an hour later, I whimpered in fear as I clung to Quinn. She gently pushed at my shoulders so she could look at me in the eye.

"I have to go answer," She whispered, her hands cupping my face. I starred at her wide eyes before reluctantly nodding. I got off her lap, grabbing a pillow nearby to clutch closely to me. I watched her get up and walk into the kitchen.

She rounded the corner and soon as out of sight. I heard the door open and strained my ears to hear what was being said. I waited in anticipation as two voices drifted into the living room.

"No, she's not here.... Well you got your information wrong...."

What? What was going on? Eventually, I heard the door closed. Quinn came back into the living room, a heavy look on her face. I sat up quickly.

"What happened?" I asked fearfully, clutching the pillow tighter to my body. She took a deep breath and looked at me tenderly.

"It was nothing, don't worry about it," She said with a smile that looked a little too forced. I looked at her doubtful. "Come on, let's watch some TV, shall we?"

I laid back down and she turned on the TV. She sat down on the couch, lifting my legs up and placing them on her lap. The atmosphere was tense and strange, both of us too preoccupied in our own thoughts to pay much attention to what was playing.

School started! Won't be able to update as many chapters as I did before, but I'll try to do it as often as possible for my readers.
