“My undercover name when I infiltrated Seward’s organization.”

“And the phone you’re using can be traced, I gather.”

“No. But the number will have shown up on their Caller ID. If we’re lucky, Tanner or one of his people will call back. It might take time, so why don’t we go to the bar and you can turn in your resignation.”

I grimaced. “It has to be done, but damn.”

“What excuse are you going to use?”

I gave that some thought. “Okay. Supposedly I went home to visit my parents. I think…Yeah, that might work.”

“How are you dealing with it?” Garth asked an hour later.

“All right, I guess. But she needs me there to help take care of him.”

“I understand. Alzheimer’s is a horrible disease. I had a friend who developed it.” Garth shook his head. “I’ll be sorry to lose you, but given the circumstances, I totally understand.”

“Thank you. I can work tonight, if you want.”
