Breakfast followed—bagels and coffee since I didn’t have anything else. Coop swore we were going to go food shopping if it killed me. “Man cannot live on bagels alone.” That negated the fact that there were frozen dinners, frozen hamburger, and frozen fish in the freezer, as well as ice cream, but as he pointed out, none of them were breakfast food

“So I eat out a lot,” I told him. “It’s easier. I grab something on the way to work…Oh, hell.”

“You’re supposed to go back today.”

“Yeah. How am I going to break the news to Garth that I’m quitting?”

“You tell him you met a handsome man who wants to carry you off to his palatial estate in the wilds of Scotland.”

“I wish.”

Coop looked incensed. “I’m not handsome?”

“Handsome. Yes. Very. Somehow, though, I don’t think you own a palatial estate anywhere.”
