Chapter 38

“Give him ten minutes,” Coop murmured. “Then, we’ll go down to the road.”

I holstered my gun and put my glove on, sticking my hand under my armpit in hopes of warming it before frostbite set in. As cold as it was, I wasn’t sure it hadn’t already. I was glad I hadn’t had to take any shots. I’d probably have missed by a mile.

Coop chuckled, holding up his hand, and it was then I realized he was wearing shooting gloves. I looked at him in question. He took the gloves he’d been wearing from his jacket pocket. “Always prepared,” he whispered.

We went down to the road and where we’d parked the car. It was still there. It still had two flat tires. What wasn’t there was the man I’d knocked out. When I told Coop, he said, “Chances are his friend came and got him.” I nodded in agreement.
