Chapter 2

Over the years, Fei Yuming grew up fast. He explored every corner of their home with the help of his system as soon as he could walk and run around on his feet. This caused his parents to worry about him and send out some hired servants to go look for him. When he turned 5, his favorite place was the public library in the city because he would read books about the outside world. He read tales about the legends of some old cultivators who left the world and ascended to the next world and was very excited, hoping that he could one day do the same. He was a little disappointed that he couldn't start cultivating right then and there and could only fantasize about it.

He was now 6 and had a little sister who was three years old. Her name was Fei Meixiu. She would always hang out with Fei Yuming and follow him around the house. He also made two friends called Zhou Chenmeng and Ye Linxia. Ye Langxia and Zhou Chenmeng were neighbors and knew each other since practically birth. The three children were the all same age and Zhou Chenmeng and Ye Feilin were well-off commoners. They went around markets looking at all the merchandise being sold. They saw lots of pretty jewelry and cool-looking weapons that were commonly seen all over the place. Their favorite place in the market area was the food stalls. They went around the stalls and watched the stall owners cooking the food and smelling the smoke that came off the pots and pans. At first, the owners were annoyed with the little kids buzzing around their stalls, but after a while they let them hang around and grew fond of them. The kids would attract customers to the food stalls with their cute baby faces sometimes, improving service, and the stall owner would give them a little bite to eat.

Fei Yuming didn't forget to ask his system to track anything of value whenever he went to the marketplace with his two friends, and always brought some money with him, but there was never anything of value.

One day Xiao Bai said, "Hey! I've found something now!"

"What is it, Xiao Bai? Is it something cool?" He started to get excited.

"I've found an egg four stalls to your right. It's a spirit animal!" Xiao Bai said.

Fei Yuming was very excited. "How do I hatch the egg?" He asked.

"We have to wait and see the egg up close, and normally you would drop your blood on the egg before it hatches and keep it with you and talk to it. Then there would be a higher chance of making a contract with you when it hatches. As for the specifics on how to hatch it, it depends on what type of egg it is." Xiao Bai said.

Fei Yuming went up to the stall and he looked at the items. They were all rocks with interesting colors and jewelry being sold in this stall. His friends were looking elsewhere at someone who was performing a trick in front of an audience.

"It's the blue and white rock." Xiao Bai informed him.

He asked the stall owner, "How much does the rock with blue and white swirls cost?"

The owner just said "It costs 5 coppers, no less. I need to make a living here."

Fei Yuming nodded in agreement because he came from a merchant's family and understood the stall owner's thoughts. He paid the guy and took the rock with him. He also decided to buy a gemstone, a mixture of pale pink and blue which was 15 coppers. He then left the stall and joined his friends, putting the gemstone and the egg into his pocket.

Right before noon time, the two boys and one girl headed off to their favorite place in the market, the food area, and did their usual routine then headed home about 4 hours later. Fei Yuming got some moon cakes from one of the food stalls for his Sister's birthday

"Big brother!!!!" Fei Meixiu came running at him and leaped into his arms. "You're back!!!! Meixiu missed you a lot, big brother! Did you forget what day it is? It's my birthday! you promised to play with me all day, but you weren't here when I woke up." She puts on a pouting face staring at Fei Yuming who is laughing at his sister's reaction.

"I didn't forget, I was just busy finding my little sister a gift. I bet you will love it." He pinches his sister's cheeks.

"Ouch! Stop that big brother! That hurts" Fei Meixiu whines.

Fei Yuming just laughs again. He goes inside their house. "Hey mom, I'm back now!"

"Oh good, you made it back just on time. Let's go and eat now."

They ate dinner and gave Fei Meixiu her presents. She was very interested in the gemstone that her brother gave her. She also noticed the blue and white rock that Fei Yuming had in his pocket.

"What's that in your pocket big bro?" she asks him.

"Oh, this?" He pulls it out of his pocket. "It's a secret." He winks at her. "Isn't it interesting? I found it in a stall and got it along with that gemstone. Sometimes they have cool stuff there."

"Ooh, can I come with you too big brother?" She asks, giving him the puppy eyes, hoping he would say yes.

"No, you're not old enough yet. Maybe when you turn 5 then I might bring you along with me and my friends."

"Okay, I'll make sure to grow up faster and then we can go everywhere together," She says with a determined look on her face.

"When you grow up. Little sister might not wanna hang out with me then" He teases her.

"It's a promise, you must take me out to the market with you when I turn 5! Big Brother must not go back on his words. you must take me to the market and buy me stuff" she yells at him angrily in her cute baby voice.

Their parents just laugh at their children's little conversation. "Okay now. That's enough guys. time for bed Xiu'er."

"But... I don't wanna go to sleep now," she says.

"If you don't go to sleep then you won't be able to grow up fast." Fei Yuming warns her. She quickly changes her mind and gets ready for bed, and goes to sleep.
