Chapter 49: One Happy Cowboy

Do you mind if we sit for a second?” I asked Luke, feeling a bit dizzy.

Luke offered me his hand for balance as I sat down on the curb. Could he stop? I was trying to absorb everything that had just happened but all I could think about was him.

“You almost seemed relieved,” noted Luke cautiously as he leaned against his truck.

“Yeah. I guess I kind of am?” I sighed, still trying to sort my feelings out. “But why was the tech acting so strange then? I was certain something was wrong. She was noticeably frazzled,” I added, trying to change the subject.

“Ahem, I think she’s a friend of Jenny’s,” Luke shrugged apologetically.

“Oh, I see,” I nodded with understanding. “Speaking of which, why are you even here?” He was engaged after all.

“Andy, like I said in the hospital, I’m here for you. Whatever happens, I’ll be right here. If you want me around, that is.”
