Old Ghost

"Damn, you brat! I am not a ghost! Show some respect to the elders!"

Shen was two steps away to get away from the house until he heard a curse from the back. He halted his steps and slowly turned his head. From the back, an old man with a black robe walked out from the shade and revealed his wrinkly face.

"You are not a ghost?" Shen had a terrified expression all over his face. He scanned the old man, from the long white hair and the feet with no footwear.

"Duh, should you ask the obvious question?" The old man rolled his eyes and sat on the floor. He looked carefully at the interior with a satisfied smile on his face, "That old b*stard's handiwork is truly amazing, even after years without care, nothing changed within the house."

"But…" Shen's hand was trembling as he pointed to the debris stone behind the old man. The stone was foolproof that the old man was the stone statue that came into life.

"Stop with your gibberish and sit!" The old man pointed at the empty spot across him, indicating Shen to sit there. However, Shen remained on his spot while shaking his head.

He knew this ghost might be an opportunity for him, but he was still scared. He needed some time to calm down first, "Let me calm down first, you are scaring me Gho– Old Sir."

The old man's mouth twitched. He heard that for sure. The young man was still thinking he was a ghost. The old man shook his head, "How can you be a coward like this? Nah, whatever, what year now?"

When he heard the bizarre question, Shen paused slightly. He was not thinking what year now, but he was thinking why would a ghost ask that question. He shook his head absentmindedly and blurted out, "I don't know!"

He barely remembered the name of the city where he spawned, there was no way he would remember the year of the game. Since there was no main story where the age or story would advance, he did not bother with the date. It was not hard to look through, but why bother?

Shen noticed that the Old Ghost furrowed his brows, looking dissatisfied with his answer. He moved his foot close to the exit so he could run away if the ghost tried to catch him. He was quite confident with his reaction.

"Then let me change the question, where do you come from? How can you end up in this village?" The old Ghost did not pursue the year anymore.

"Eternal Wind City and I fell into God Burial, and for some reason, I end up here," he was honest with his answer. That was what happened, he did not even need to sum it up for the old ghost to understand as it was what happened.

"Eternal Wind City!?" The Old Ghost raised his voice as his eyes widened in fury while looking at him. But it was for two seconds before the fury replaced with a calm demeanor.

"God Burial? What's that?" The old man changed his question.

"It's the giant crevice near the city," Shen was wondering if he should go. The Old Ghost was not an NPC who would give him a treasure or quest since the old man had been asking something related to him rather than sharing a story that would lead to a quest.

"Hah, Ridiculous, why would–" The Old Ghost stopped midway, "I guess they are right about that part. This place is fit to be called God Burial."

Shen noticed a smug smirk on the Old Ghost's face. He did not know what this Old Ghost was thinking about. The Old Ghost was angry right after he mentioned Eternal Wind City. Then the old man calmed down, and now smirking smugly.

"If you come from the Eternal Wind City, you should know me right?" The Old Ghost pointed at himself with his thumb. He looked so narcissistic in Shen's eyes.

Shen shook his head, "I don't know you…" he observed the old man's features closely. He truly did not know the old ghost, 'Maybe he was a famous NPC?'

No matter how famous the old man was, Shen was truly clueless. He was typically someone to play while getting to know the game slowly. He would not bother to read the history of the Eternal Wind City, getting to know everything and playing efficiently. He was not that type of player.

"Are you kidding me? How could you not know Yosu The Void Sword?" The Old Ghost raised his voice with his eyes widened in shock. Shen responded with a shake, this was his first day in the game, he knew nothing of the city, let alone the figures in the city.

"What about the Vyphrian Family? Do they still rule the Eternal Wind City?" The Old Man changed his question, but his voice was getting fiercer as he mentioned the Vyphrian Family.

"I don't know! This is my first day in Eternal Wind City then I fall into this place. I know nothing about the city," Shen shook his head and tried to explain the things to the Old Ghost.

The two exchanged glances for a little longer. The Old Ghost looked into Shen's eyes, and he found out that the young man sounded genuine with his words, 'Does he come from the tribe in the forest and fall into this place? But shouldn't he die?'

"Are you willing to listen to this Old Man's story, young'un?" There was no longer fury in his voice but calmness and sadness?

Shen felt pretty weird, the Old Ghost's emotion changed very quickly. From shock to anger to being calm and now a little sad. At this point, he was less scared of the old man after their exchange. Clearly, the old man did not try to harm or even scare him.

Shen came over and sat across the old man. The old man started his story while Shen listened to the story patiently.

Yosu the Void Sword was the strongest swordsman in the Eternal Wind City. He was famous for his quick strike. Even the strongest knight of the city lost in a few strikes against him. The strike was not necessarily powerful but it was just too fast.

The Old Man had a proud expression when he told his tale. Since the old man had introduced himself as the Void Sword, Shen was aware the old man was telling his own story.

"Alas, Good things rarely last," The old man shook his head.

"What happened?" Shen was curious that the energetic old man became dispirited so suddenly. He said that he was undefeated in the Eternal Wind City. He thought the old man would go outside, looking for a worthy opponent.

"I plan to leave the city to hone my sword skill, but the head of the Vyphrian Family learned that and came to me. He asked me to stay…" the old man's voice trailed off.

Shen was now hooked with the story. He attentively listened to the old man and waited for the next. He thought the old man would fight the whole city if the Lord tried to prevent him to leave.
