Sophia's day couldn't have gotten any worst, she had been looking forward to meeting the one person she considered as her type but nothing went as planned, her phone was dead so, she couldn't call Jaden or her driver, taking the bus wasn't an option so she had to wait for an Uber again but this time she wasn't lucky enough to get an empty one, she stood by the roadside for more than thirty minutes before finally giving in, the Uber she boarded was even more loaded than the others and could be stopped for overload, there were few lousy women in there who kept on gossiping as time passed. "hey carmelia, you must have been aware of what that thief did to my neighbor mr Matthew, they took all his money and I heard his face was damaged behind recognition" a skinny looking woman, who appeared to be in her forties said to a cranky woman who sat close to her. " poor Matthew, his wife most be traumatized now, rumors have it that he had just acquired a huge sum of money and it was in his house" the woman called Carmelia said. "what a fortune that must have been" the other woman lamented "it's his wife's fault, all she knows how to do is run her mouth, she has been competing with Mrs Peter for a long time, everyone knows the Peters are wealthy but Mrs Matthew keeps telling anyone who cares to listen that her husband is the boss in his company and her parents left her a decent inheritance, I heard her claim once that her husband's investments are higher than Mr Peter's".
They continued talking about other things and the other people seemed to be interested in their discussion, the only person who looked like she was going to burst out at any time was Sophia, she was having the worst time of her life, she had never used public transport before and these women were too nosey for her liking, they had mentioned her family case just now and couldn't stop exaggerating, she decided to just ignore all that was around her and focus on something that will make her calm and give her peace, the first picture that came into her head was that of Jaden, she was worried he was going to snub her because she couldn't make it on time, She had been looking forward to this date more than anything for a while now, but it had ended up as a total fiasco "oh no, I left the gift I prepared for him in that restaurant" Sophia gasped as she became aggravated, she had almost cracked her brain trying to bring up something to get for Jaden and spent so much time, energy and money for that but now all her efforts were wasted, she couldn't even fully remember where she left it, she decided to call Jaden first once she charges her phone, he was the big fish she boasted of to all her friends and now she was in love with him, she had no plans of slowing things down and letting someone else take her Jaden away from her, she was still deep in thought and the driver's voice made her snap out, they had arrived, Sophia hurriedly looked around for her purse as she couldn't bear to stay in this filthy place. The few people inside the car quickly paid and went out, soon only two people were left. "My purse, I can't find it" Sophia cried out, a few notes were inside, her bank card too, and some personal things " Madam I'm sorry to hear that but you have to pay or else I'll Call the police," the driver said in a stern tone, "this was not good for Sophia she didn't want to be locked up, not even for a second, that would be bad for her family's image and this driver was being difficult he couldn't even consider her," Sophia thought desperately, at this point she was willing to do anything just to make this embarrassment go away, her mind was in chaos and she couldn't think straight. "madam I'll give you 5 minutes to call someone to get the money," said the driver to Sophia, but there was little she could do because her phone was dead and it was inside her purse! she was about to beg the driver for his account details, she wanted to transfer the money to him later, but the other man that had remained in the car stepped in, like a knight in shining amor and saved her "don't worry miss, I'll settle it for you" he said, Sophia almost shouted out as she thanked the man, he was her saviour, he paid the driver and Sophia was the first one to hurry out without even looking back, the man who had just helped her went after her "hey pretty, it was nice seeing you, my name is mark" he said, Sophia wasn't interested but this man had just helped her so she had to show him some face, only a very shameful person would not show gratitude, even if it wasn't sincere. "I'm Sophia, thank you so much for helping me out today Mark, I owe you one," she said reluctantly " ok that won't do, how about you take me out on a date," Mark said cockily.
Sophia Was losing her patience " I'm sorry Mr. Mark but that's not how it's done, just give me your bank details and I'll return your money with interest" she squeezed these words out of her mouth impatiently as annoyance was written all over her face " oh no, don't do that please, ok what if I take you out instead" I don't bite, I just wanna know you more" he said persuasively, "sorry mr Mike but I'm a very busy person" Sophia said out not bothering to hide her irritation " the name is Mark my dear, not Mike" Mark said " since you've turned down my friendship offer, take this, you don't have any money now, please take it" Sophia had never felt more insulted in her life, this wretched man was offering her money, she just looked at his hand and walked but if Sophia thought she could get rid of him that easily, she was surely mistaken.
"I insist, you don't have any money and I'm just looking out for you, I know your house is around but you might need this, and don't even try to refuse because I won't let you go unless you accept it, either you return my money right now or I'll follow you to your house, so just take it" Mark said seriously, Sophia couldn't let him follow her and didn't have any money to give him, she couldn't run nor shout so she just took the money and ran off without looking back, she stopped running when she felt too tired to run anymore and she was already infront of her house Sophia lived on her own at the center of the city, she had recently just moved out of her parents house because all they did was frustrate her with boring talks and different sets of questions, she didn't want to work in their company and insisted on modelling, her parents weren't pleased with her choice but they couldn't force her, Sophia didn't like doing anything at all, she had not done anything serious after her graduation, her parents were rich and provided for everything, the things she loved doing were shopping, clubbing and partying, she wanted to have her friends at her place for sleepovers, Sophia wanted to be free and didn't like work, she hated anything that will stress her, but her parents always came in the way, so she decided to move out, they wouldn't let her and she threatened to run away, her parents had no choice, she was their only child and they didn't want her to be unhappy or run away so they let her choose the house and location, the had houses scattered all over the city. She had chosen this one located at the center of the city because there were more clubs, restaurants, hotels, and companies located this way, and most of her friends lived here too.
Sophia then moved up to her house, and it was at this point that she realized she had lost her keys too, the spare ones were inside the house and the only people that had her keys were her parents, she couldn't just go to her friend's place without calling and she had no money to pay for a hotel, the only thing that could be done now was for her to go to her parent's place and get her keys, it was already six PM and she didn't want to spend the night with her parents who lived in the north of the city.
she went back to the road and was lucky this time, she didn't have to wait for too long as one empty Uber came up to her, she immediately stopped it and told the driver where she was heading as she got in, she wanted to come back that same day so she told the driver to speed up and she would pay more, the offer was tempting and the Uber man needed extra cash so he willingly obliged. And started driving at a high speed, there weren't many cars on the road and he drove with ease.
