First Notice

Carlos switches the channel to the news just as I got comfortable watching one of my favourite shows. I roll my eyes in annoyance and turn my attention to the news to see the daily reports. I notice that the news reporter man seems to actually have emotions as he seems rather uneasy instead of the normal robot look as they stand there, cool to know they actually have feelings!

"This is not a drill, an outbreak has just recently happened and all citizens are being told to flee the state or lock yourselves in your homes. Please do not panic and don't interact or go near anyone infected as this will result in-"

Before they could finish speaking Carlos switched the TV off.

"Well, that was interesting. Didn't know they changed the news channel to have my favorite movies on."

Carlos said sarcastically, not taking the news alert seriously, even though it did sound unrealistic, but why would the news person lie?

Mum on the other hand seemed concerned, her eyes wide open with interest and shock, however, she remained in a calm state.

Carlos, seeing Mum's expression scoffs and opens his mouth as if he's about to speak but Mum talks before he can.

"Carlos go outside and get your Dad, I'll quickly go and get Loona."

"Can't believe they are making us leave the state as if everywhere else isn't as expensive enough! Such bullshit."

  She wasn't one to swear so I was quite surprised by her choice of words, however, I paid no mind. If this really was a zombie apocalypse who cares what language we use? I bet Carlos is cheering, he probably thinks he's one of his game characters!

The screen door flew open as Mum opened it so we wouldn't have to chase Loona around the yard to try to get her collar on. As expected, she runs straight in, never missing a chance to come inside, however, she seems on edge, spooked perhaps. Her ears were flat against her head and her tail was hidden in between her legs. I can't help but wonder if Loona might've seen something or sensed something like how dogs usually can. Mum stands next to the door as she speaks.

"Go get Loona's collar, it's on the–"

Suddenly, a bloodcurdling scream left her mouth as blood poured out from her mouth, a hand now visibly wrapped around her chest, and a crooked mouth latched into the side of her throat, tearing off a massive chunk, and exposing the inside of her throat, her blood glistening and pouring out like it was a water leak.

I let out a high-pitched scream of surprise and stepped back as I watched her fall to the ground outside, the person on top of her ripping into her throat, tearing chunks of skin and flesh from her own body, I swear I just saw her spine!

Tears flow from my eyes and stream down my cheeks as I watch the brutal sight. I can hear Carlos and Dad's heavy footsteps running toward me from behind, about to see the scene.
