Lu Yun stood frozen, his expression stuck somewhere between disbelief and awe.
"You… you're level 7?" His voice cracked, unsure if his senses were deceiving him.
The shock flooded his mind, making it hard to process what he was seeing. Nothing like this had ever happened before. The highest anyone had reached in the novice dungeon was level 5, and now Lin Moyu stood before him, breaking every record with ease.
And it had only taken 10 hours.
"There weren't enough monsters left," Lin Moyu said matter-of-factly, "Otherwise, I'd be at level 8 by now." He looked at Lu Yun without a trace of arrogance, just pure practicality. "Teacher Lu, I want to apply to head to the outskirts of Xihai City."
His request to leave the city was stated as if it were the most normal thing in the world. No one had ever expected a day when all the monsters in the dungeon would be slain. Usually, the monsters would reset with each re-entry. But no one had ever wiped them all out in under 12 hours—not even close.
This dungeon was designed for novices—fresh professionals, inexperienced and with minimal skills, meant to battle low-level creatures to ease them into combat. No one had ever cleared out the level 8 monsters, let alone done so in record time.
Yet, here was Lin Moyu, calmly shattering all expectations.
Lu Yun's mind raced, trying to comprehend the magnitude of what had just happened. He had never seen anything like this, and it was numbing in its unprecedented nature.
"Teacher Lu?" Lin Moyu's voice pulled him from his daze. The necromancer waved a hand in front of his face, forcing him back to the present.
After a moment, Lu Yun finally snapped back to reality, nodding furiously. "Yes, yes, of course. I'll issue the approval for you to leave the city. You'll have it soon." He exhaled, still shaken. "Take a rest for now, and we'll wait for the others to come out before sending you back."
Lin Moyu had more than proven his strength, and Lu Yun would ensure he got the necessary permissions.
As Lu Yun returned to the group of principals, their curious eyes followed him, eager for an explanation.
"Old Lu, what just happened? Why did that student come out so early?" one asked. "Was there an issue?"
"Yeah, is he injured? And where are his teammates?"
Lu Yun took three quick gulps of tea, finally calming his nerves enough to speak. "That student… He's Lin Moyu. He cleared the entire novice dungeon—he killed every single level 8 monster."
A collective gasp echoed from the group of principals.
Even Xia Dongyang, usually composed in the face of adversity, couldn't hide his surprise. His eyes darted to Lin Moyu, who now sat meditating in the distance, as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.
"He's level 7," one of the principals said, voice barely a whisper. "He went from level 1 to 7 in just 10 hours…"
That alone was an astonishing feat, but to clear all the monsters in the dungeon, including the level 8 beasts? It was unheard of. This wasn't just rapid leveling—this was a display of raw, unyielding power.
"The hidden profession… must be exceptionally strong," Xia Dongyang mused, awe creeping into his voice.
The others nodded in agreement. Lin Moyu's necromancer class seemed to exceed even the rarest professions they had encountered before. It wasn't just strong—it was on the verge of being legendary.
"If this keeps up, the necromancer profession could rival the legendary classes," another principal remarked.
"We've never seen a true legendary class, but compared to the rare classes we know, the necromancer is far more efficient," said another, nodding thoughtfully.
"True, but we'll have to see if it holds up at higher levels," someone chimed in. "Some classes are strong early on but start to fall off later."
"It depends on the skills and talents," another added. "Even within the same profession, there can be vast differences."
The principals had seen many professions over the years, but Lin Moyu's stood out. He was a prodigy unlike any other they had encountered.
Lu Yun glanced again at Lin Moyu. "At the very least, his necromancer class is extraordinary. We may not be in charge of his future for much longer."
"If he gets accepted into Xia Jing Academy, it'll be their concern then," Xia Dongyang said with a faint smile. "But I imagine my daughter, Xia Xue, will be disheartened when she learns about this."
Lu Yun chuckled. "Not just this time. You've been away often, so you might not know, but Lin Moyu has been outperforming Xia Xue for the past three years. She's been in second place for that long."
"Really?" Xia Dongyang smiled wryly. "She never mentioned that."
He knew his daughter well—her silence only meant one thing. She was quietly burning with frustration.
Meanwhile, Lin Moyu sat meditating, recovering his spiritual energy. His skeleton army had grown to 24 warriors, though his summoning space had room for 70. It would take some time before he could fill it entirely.
By 9 PM, the 12-hour dungeon time had finally ended. One by one, the students were teleported out of the dungeon. Many were exhausted, but their faces were bright with excitement. This was real combat, a far cry from the theoretical lessons they had been used to.
Bloodstains marked their clothing, a lingering scent of battle in the air. One of the teachers cast a spell, dispelling the odor.
The instructors quickly gathered their students, checking for injuries. Despite the grueling experience, no one had suffered any serious harm. Most students had reached level 3, with a few strong performers achieving level 4.
Xia Xue was among them, her face alight with pride. After hours of combat, she had reached level 5—matching the highest record ever achieved in the novice dungeon.
"I've tied the record," she thought. "I won't lose this time."
But her eyes searched the crowd for Lin Moyu. Where was he?
When she finally spotted him meditating in the distance, something seemed off. She squinted at his status and froze, her body going cold.
"Level 7? How is that possible…?"
