In the exam, the goal was to assess the combat abilities of the candidates.
Although the monsters were set at a higher level than the candidates, this had never been a problem for qualified professionals. This system had been in place for years without any major issues. Most battles lasted between ten seconds and half a minute, giving enough time to gauge the candidates' skills.
But Lin Moyu's case was different.
His monster was killed in an instant. There was no opportunity to assess his combat technique or strategy.
"What now?" one of the examiners asked.
All eyes turned to the middle-aged man in the mage's robe, who was in charge of the exam's mage candidates. He was silent for a moment, caught off guard. The usual process had been disrupted, and the goal of the exam hadn't been met. A solution needed to be found.
Just then, an elderly man walked into the room.
"Master Ning, why have you come?" the examiners asked, immediately showing their respect.
Ning Xuanfeng, a figure of great authority, responded, "I heard there's a new profession this year. I wanted to see for myself."
The examiners quickly explained what had just happened with Lin Moyu.
After listening, Ning Xuanfeng nodded. "You're all curious about the strength of this new profession, the Necromancer."
"The standard settings for rare professions won't be enough to evaluate him. Let's set the difficulty to that of a legendary profession and give him another test."
"But that wouldn't be fair to him," an examiner objected. "How would we calculate his points?"
Ning Xuanfeng chuckled. "It's not the first time we've seen a candidate take out a monster instantly. In this case, it's clear he's extraordinary."
He paused, then added, "Mark him as first place for this exam, and give him the full 100 points. For the second test, if he passes, award him an additional 1,000 points."
The examiners exchanged nervous glances. "Master Ning, surely you're not serious about giving away your own points!" one of them exclaimed.
Ning Xuanfeng waved them off. "Don't worry about me. Just carry out the second test."
Lin Moyu had been waiting quietly, unaware of the discussions happening behind the scenes. Suddenly, another light curtain appeared in front of him, and a second monster materialized on the other side.
This monster looked exactly like the first but exuded a far stronger presence.
"Candidates, please begin the second test. Defeat the monster in front of you."
Lin Moyu wasn't surprised by the second exam; he figured it was part of the process. He didn't realize he was being tested at a far higher level than everyone else.
As soon as the light curtain dropped, Lin Moyu acted. The skeleton warrior appeared at his side, and in a flash, his soul flame struck the monster.
It fell with a single scream. Once again, the monster had been killed in an instant.
The examiners were stunned. It was an exact repeat of the first round.
This time, the monster had been set to level 20—four levels higher than Lin Moyu. Yet it had been killed without resistance.
"That skill... it's terrifying," one of the examiners muttered.
"Does he have some kind of overpowered equipment?" another asked, but after reviewing the data, they saw no special items. Lin Moyu's victory had been purely due to his skillset.
The examiners turned to Ning Xuanfeng once more, unsure how to proceed. Ning Xuanfeng, however, simply shook his head. "No need for more tests. Move on to the next round."
At that moment, the voice announcing the exam's progress boomed throughout the tower.
"The first round for main battle candidates has concluded."
"Of the 632 candidates who participated, 522 have passed."
Then, the rankings appeared in front of the candidates.
[Lin Moyu, 0.1 seconds, points: 100]
[Zuo Mei, 3.2 seconds, points: 70]
[Xia Xue, 5.2 seconds, points: 40]
Lin Moyu was ranked first with a time of 0.1 seconds.
Zuo Mei, a close second, had finished in 3.2 seconds. Xia Xue came in third with 5.2 seconds. From fourth place onward, candidates like Wang Zihao, the young president of the Dynasty Guild, only received 10 points.
Wang Zihao was furious when he saw the results. "How did I not even make the top three?" he shouted. "0.1 seconds? That has to be a mistake!"
Others shared his disbelief. Lin Moyu's performance was nothing short of miraculous.
Even Xia Xue, who had performed admirably herself, stared at the rankings in awe. "Lin Moyu is really something," she muttered. "I won't back down, though."
Gao Yang, on the other hand, was more lighthearted, laughing at Lin Moyu's success. "Boss, you're on another level. How are we even supposed to keep up?"
Lin Moyu, meanwhile, scratched his nose, wondering if he had overdone it. He hadn't expected the exam to be this easy. Still, more than 100 people had been eliminated despite the seemingly simple task.
The voice from earlier spoke again, signaling the start of the second round.
"The second round for main battle candidates will begin shortly. Candidates, please select your difficulty level."
"Be warned, the second round is dangerous, and casualties may occur. If you encounter a life-threatening situation, you may shout 'I give up,' and the test will end. Your score will be determined based on the number of monsters killed at the time of your surrender."
The voice continued explaining the details. The second test would be similar to a dungeon raid, divided into three difficulty levels: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell.
The number of points awarded for defeating monsters would vary. On normal difficulty, each monster killed would yield 1 point. On Nightmare, it was 3 points, and on Hell, 5 points.
Each candidate would have 30 minutes to kill as many monsters as possible.
Lin Moyu prepared himself. The real challenge was about to begin.
