Chapter 12: Continuous Substitutions

As soon as Yuedao removed his mask, he leaned against the wall, feeling nauseous. 

He started vomiting uncontrollably for a while before finally regaining his composure. His eyes fell upon the mask, and his face turned pale.

He noticed that the cotton lining on the mask had the same color as Chiba's at that time, and the scent of Chiba's excrement wafted out. 

"I made this with ten layers of cotton cloth mixed with ground charcoal, but I only talked to that Chiba once..." Yuedao muttered to himself.

Looking at the color of the cotton cloth, Yuedao felt his stomach churn once again. 

As a Root ninja, he had witnessed countless gruesome scenes without flinching. But facing the cotton cloth that now resembled Chiba's excrement, his defenses crumbled. 

This cotton cloth was his special anti-Chiba measure, designed to cover his mouth and prevent him from inhaling Chiba's feces. Now that the cotton cloth had changed color, it meant that his mouth had been in close contact with Chiba's excrement.

"No, this task is too difficult."

With a strong desire to retreat, Yuedao decided to deliver Chiba's meal and then go to Danzo-sama. He wanted to apply for a position on the frontline border. He would rather die on the front line than eat dung every day.

Having made up his mind, Yuedao removed the cotton cloth, tore it off, and put on the mask again.

In the meantime, Danzo was extremely busy. News had arrived from the frontline troops that the No. 2 and No. 3 supply stations had been destroyed. Three out of the five supply depots in Konoha Village were now in ruins. 

The reconstruction and management of the supply stations required Danzo's assistance. Suddenly, Yuedao appeared before Danzo in an instant.

"Huh? Yuedao, why are you back?" Danzo questioned, furrowing his brow.

Yuedao scanned the area and spoke firmly, "Master Danzo, I am applying to go to the front! As for monitoring Chiba, please assign someone else."

Danzo understood that something unspeakable must have happened to Yuedao regarding Chiba. 

However, he remembered that Yuedao was skilled in creating various anti-poison equipment and was the most suitable candidate to monitor Chiba. He wondered why Yuedao returned in less than half a day.

After a moment of contemplation, Danzo asked, "You didn't wear your anti-poison equipment?"

"I did wear it, and it was a high-level anti-poison item," Yuedao replied.

"Then why weren't you protected?"

Yuedao shook his head, admitting that he wasn't guarded.

With that, Yuedao revealed a plastic bag containing yellow cotton cloth. He also explained his analysis of Chiba's excrement.

"Chiba's excrement gas is not ordinary. It is composed of numerous tiny feces particles. Inhaling this gas is equivalent to ingesting his..."

"Okay! Stop talking!" Danzo interrupted angrily. He understood what Yuedao was trying to say, but he didn't want to hear anymore.

After dismissing Yuedao, Danzo frowned and considered the situation. He couldn't let Chiba roam freely in the village; it would create chaos. 

He came up with a plan: to have Chiba continue delivering supplies once the supply station was rebuilt.

Danzo's eyes lit up with another idea. He thought it would be reasonable to build a house for Chiba outside the village entrance. After all, Chiba traveled a long way and would need a place to rest upon returning to the village entrance.

As he entertained these thoughts, a girl approached and handed him a list.

"Master Danzo, this is the call list," the girl said with a pleasant and crisp voice. She was wearing clothes indicating she was an intern, and the Aburame family crest was visible.

"An intern? This family crest... Are you from the Aburame family?" Danzo's mind flashed with recognition. The Aburame Clan used the scent of decay to cultivate insects.

"If that's the case, does it mean this family is immune to Chiba's excrement?" Danzo pondered and smiled.

"Master Danzo?" Aburame Jingmei looked at him cautiously, sensing his peculiar thoughts.

"Not bad! You are very capable!" 

Danzo nodded approvingly, observing the girl in front of him. She was slim, with delicate features and a timid demeanor. Twin ponytails hung down to her shoulders, giving her a capable appearance.

"From now on, I have a mission for you!"

"My lord, please give me instructions."

"Your main task now is to monitor Chiba and prevent him from leaving the compound."
