Chapter 143: Prisons

-------------

Tsunade kept her guard high as she muttered, "You are as freaky as they say. I've never seen someone get back up so quickly after that kind of punch."

Slowly raising my sword, I warned, "If you are trying to get killed, you are doing an awfully good job."

Tsunade stared back at me, showing a strong spirit, before finally sighing and dropping her combat stance to say, "I apologize for this, I couldn't let you kill him."

I narrowed my eyes in contemplation, it seemed she knew this man, and he was quite important to her.

Sending a look at Hideto, who still had Hirahisa, I ordered, "Take care of the mess here. Also, please make sure that before the prison gets rebuilt, they come see me first for design. It's about time this place gets a proper prison."

Although I had been calling it a prison, it was nothing more than a small building that used to serve another purpose, and had been used as a small temporary prison.

There were no prisoners within Sendai. Instead, criminals would be sent to two places, depending on their condition, crime and the political situation.

The two possibilities are the Broken Prison, and the Blood Prison.

The first, the Broken Prison, is the one that was attacked several years back, and where I first came upon the rebellion as I was tasked with my team to capture the prisoners.

That prison is for average people who can't use chakra, and served to detain those who weren't very dangerous.

On the other end, the Blood prison was much more serious. It was created to detain the most dangerous individuals in the world, and it wasn't only for Konoha, the worst of the worst would be sent there.

It was mostly populated by strong chakra wielders, although some average people who did horrendous crimes, or who held a different kind of power, were also held in that place.

It was currently a little tense to send prisoners to the Blood Prison, since it was situated within the Land of Fields, which was a battlefield between the Land of Fire and the Land of Earth.

And even in peaceful times, it wasn't a prison where absolutely every chakra user could be sent either.

First, Shinobis very rarely made it there, for desertion rate was not only very low within the Shinobi Villages, when a Shinobi did defect, they would get neutralized, rather than arrested.

People with information that was too sensitive wouldn't get sent either, in fear that they would reveal things they shouldn't, so in the end, despite it's reputation, the Blood Prison didn't actually have many very strong people.

Still, it was a force best not to mess with, it was heavily protected, and other than the Five Great Nations, very, very few could attack it successfully, and since it wouldn't make any sense for us to attack the ones taking care of our unwanted prisoners, they stood for almost a century now.

But neither of those prisons really felt right with me. The Broken Prison was far too unsafe, it already had a break in, and any competent organisation would be able to do it again.

The only reason there was a single break in was that it wasn't worth it to break into this prison, no prisoner of importance would be transferred there, and even if there were, they would soon be able to get out with their influence, without the need of a breakout.

As for the Blood Prison, it was even worse. It was lorded over by a foreign entity, and I had no wish to send my prisoners to another land.

So I needed a proper prison built, and the destruction of this sham they called prison is just fine.

Of course, some people won't be happy, as having a large prison within the city may not sit right with many people, be it the people who will feel scared of a breakout, or the nobles who will be scared of becoming its tenants.

But it doesn't matter. The Daimyo is a wuss, and the Council holds no political power anymore. Instead, this may strike several birds with one stone.

Of course, I needed that prison, but since the Council don't have any official power, they will try to take another route, and the only plausible one now will be the people.

And constructing the prison will make them restless, and act rashly. They will do everything in their power to rally the common people to their cause, to give themselves power through the opinion of the nobles.

Unfortunately for them, if they really are doing this, then they are digging their own graves. Well, I guess we will see how this all turns out in the future.

Hideto nodded at my commands, and my eyes went to the captain of this platoon as I added, "Have these soldiers examined too."

The captain opened his mouth, but I quickly continued, "Traitors to the Daimyo will get the death sentence, no matter their rank. But if they have nothing to hide…"

This shut the captain up, so I finally turned back to look at Tsunade and said, "I was going to invite you politely, but I'm afraid I am going to have to insist now. Follow me to my mansion."

Tsunade raised an eyebrow and asked, "What if I don't want to?"

My gaze hardened as I replied coldly, "Then you will be judged for deserting the village in its time of needs, gambling away the Senju heritage throughout enemy nations."

She flinched ever so slightly at that, must have hit a weak point.

"Do not test my patience, it's growing thinner and thinner these days."

She didn't look very happy, but she nodded nevertheless, and so we left the scene.

I directly led her to my mansion, while the Anbu following me chose to stay with Hideto to oversee the more chaotic situation.

Both Tsunade and I were experienced Shinobi, so I chose to speed up a little on my way back to the mansion, and so in under a minute we reached my garden, for my interrogation of the old hag.
