3. Homecoming

"Nahen Sato.....Huh?" Thats my name huh. Glad I wasn't some soul jacker that stole this kids body.

Memories start coming back to him and he realizes that his soul was reborn in this world and his memories were locked away until now.

'Wait since I'm here that means I need to train hard and become the strongest. I don't know how long I'll live in this world until I catch an unknown illness. This world is full of them too.'

After a few minutes of organizing his thoughts and accepting his fate, Mai came back through the door with a doctor by her side.

Mai was a woman of slender build with long brown straight hair reaching her lower back. Olive eyes with tan skin. She was dressed in a black kimono with a green konoha flak jacket over it and a leaf forehead protector passing two locks framing either side of her face.

Ahem....

His gaze on Mai was interrupted by affirmative cough from the side which drew his attention towards the second figure. Another woman approximately in her early thirties wearing a white coat waving a hand over his chest glowing with a green hue pulled it back and drew it towards his head for a few more seconds before withdrawing.

"Hmmm?.....his condition is rapidly improving, it's like he isn't the same person who was laying here a few moments ago. I haven't such vitality before." Awe was present over her face as this was a first she had seen.

Nahen's never shifted of her features as if trying to recollect where he had seen her before. She had shoulder length blonder her tied up in a ponytail at the back of her neck. On her neck was a red forehead protector tied loosely around her neck. Followed by the casual doctors white coat.

"You're a lucky one aren't ya" She remarks while looking at him dumbfoundedly. "I'm going to keep him here for a bit longer to run some more test. His condition may have taken a leap forward and gotten better somehow which is why I'm gonna keep a few nights for observation." This time she turned towards Mai who had a pensive look on her face as if looking for anything wrong in her words.

"Is he gonna be okay" Mai asked as she tightly gripped Nahen's hand as though he had an incurable illness.

"Yes, it seems his condition is doing way better than I thought it would. Anyone in his condition would have suffered irreparable damage or even worse. Which is why I'll be keeping him to make sure this sudden improvement of his body doesn't have any draw backs as well as run some tests on his condition and compare it to before."

"Okay? If his doing better isn't that a good thing?" Mai's skepticism kicks in as she stares at the doctor with questioning look. 'There's something bigger here. Is she going to tell someone about his recovery. If so I need to do something before she tells the wrong person. If she tells the Hokage there's no telling if this info will miss him.'

'What if she's his spy then his safety isn't that guaranteed when I'm away on a mission' Mai's thoughts run through possibilities as she remembers the words Nahen's parents left her with before their presumed death on a mission in Iwa where their cover was blown and they were intercepted by their anbu which disposed of them and their bodies never recovered.

"Dont let Danzo have his way with our Nahen. We entrust his safety in your hands." The words still echo in his head as he wonders if their mission really went sideways or they were sold out by the empiriel elder of konoha.

Nahen was only two years during this incident which happened two years ago which worried her since he only asked once where his parents were in all this time as if he knew and made peace with them never coming back again. Which woried her since she never disclosed anything to him.

This incident was what caused her retirement from anbu as she had to take of her nephew. After that incident the so called darkness of konoha suddenly had an interest in Nahen and offered to raise and train him by integrating him into his root anbu stating that his parents were talented shinobi and it would be a waste if their son was let be without proper training. A request which Mai rejected following Nahen's parents last wishes.

After which most of the missions she took afterwards' information was mysteriously leaked and her life in danger almost the time but she managed to survive each encounter. Which made her wonder if it was a coincidence or was Nahen's parents taken out by the elder council of konoha which made her loose trust in the village system and reported her suspicions to the Hokage on numerous occasion and ordered and investigation be carried out which was always rebuked on the notion of 'a simple lackey shinobi ordering that an investigation be carried on one the village elders on a whimp' which opened her eyes that the Hokage wasn't just going to throw his friend under the bus which made her recall all the things he let Danzo get away with.

As if sensing Mai's thoughts which all happened in a matter of seconds Nahen cupped her hand beside him with his right hand and clutched it tightly as if assuring her it's gonna be okay either way.

Nahen's growth in the ninja arts and intelligence was something that always scared her since his progress was always faster than it is which made her promise Nahen that he would hide his talent and not show it off as it would put him in danger. Which all made sense to Nahen now that his memories were unlocked and he realized that true threats don't lie outside the village borders or beyond the skies but they currently lie in the village system which he can't do anything about.

As if receiving Nahen's intentions Mai's tension eased a bit whichade her realize her inquiry may have sounded suspicious to the doctor but she still held on her ground since much of her credibility had been stripped away by rumors spreading through the village. Which made her wary of the information she let's out. Still she fixed her attention on the doctor awaiting her response.

"Its mendatory to check for abnormalities in shinobis as well as mutation even in their children. His vitality is one part as to figure out if the cells are healing theselves at this fast rate or they are rapidly making new ones which would be a bad which would to his life being cut short. Another mayter being his large chakra pool. Putting all this factors together it would make sense if any of his parents had a Senju or Uzumaki heritage, then that would shed some light."

Sensing Mai's gaze not wavering, the doctor decide to reveal the reason behind her decision to keep him for longer.

"Oh...I see. I suppose that makes sense" Mai puts up a worried smile on herface as her worry loosens a bit. "How long will you keep him?"

"At this rate he should be fully healed in a week or two" The doctor responds in a warm smile on her face.

A week later Nahen was discharged from the hospital with a warning to it easy for atleast a month before taking on any rigorous training.

"It's time to go home, are you ready to go?" Mai asks Nahen who is lazily laying on the bed for the first time in this whole week being reborn being in control as he was sedated all the time to recuperate his healing using a special drug. With Mai around all the time to watch over him during the day his guard was raised at night. Luckily nothing out of the ordinary happened.

"Yess! I can't wait to have a home cooked meal and rest peacefully in my own bed again" Nehan responds as his eyes glisten with a fever joy as he was so far able to decipher his feelings and interactions with the people of this world.

Soon they left they hospital and enter the busy district of the streets with bustling foot traffic. During this walk home his eyes were constantly flickering around taking on the sites of the village. Even though his memories did have a bit of the village it was different than actually seeing the streets with his own.

Nahen was a happy child who was constantly smiling and brought joy to his parents. Something happened when his connection to his parents was severed for some reason when they were out on a mission two years ago. Upon Mai about his parents who told him they were out on a mission and wouldn't be back for a while. Which was before she even heard the news of the mission and their death.

This broken connection made sense to him that he wasn't going to be seeing them anytime soon which made him sad and he reduced his interactions with people other than Mai.

Mai who saw this realized that he knew something and was saddened by his seclusion and tried to lift his spirit up all the time was looking forward to his entry in the academy where he would be exposed to kids his age and make some friends.

Nahen who saw how Mai took care of him and how she treated him like a son knew he atleast had a person he could trust in this world that would watch over him and at that moment he vowed to protect her with everything he had.

Soon they arrived home which was where his parents lived. Mai decided to preserve their home for the sake of Nahen to have something of theirs as his home.

After arriving home a barrier activated as they got close to the gate of the compound and Mai inserted some of her chakra into a sealing formula in the middle of the gate to unlock it and the barrier which opened allowing them to enter and locked again after they entered.

'Seems she installed some security measures erupted from her fears' Nahen's thoughts go through his head as he realized the reason behind the barrier.

The house was a double story traditional japanese house with a wide yard and a huge backyard with a koi pond on the side.

Mai went to prepare dinner and Nahen retired to his room where he continued to decipher his memories and found something he he was expecting sooner or later and realized he would later test it out but realized that he already had interacted with it.

'Status' He says out in his mind and nothing happens.

"..."

'Status'

"..."

He repeats again and is met with the same silence as before. 'Wait'. He rembers something as he facepalms himself and utters.

"Jess"
