Dismiss Uchiha Shin and the other captains?
What a joke.
Uchiha Fugaku never expected this. They don't even work for the Police Force anymore, so why would they care about being demoted?
It seems the Clan head doesn't know the full story. Someone should explaine it to him. The group exchanged glances, but no one dared to bring it up in front of Fugaku.
"What are you waiting for? Go find Uchiha Shin and the other captains for me!" Fugaku snapped at the motionless group.
He gestured for them to go search for the missing members, and the two captains standing behind him joined in, urging them forward.
Shin, along with the other captains who had left without permission, had thrown them into a more difficult situation during this apology.
"Clan head..." someone spoke up, but couldn't bring themselves to finish the sentence.
"Why aren't you moving?" Fugaku's voice was filled with anger as he glared at the unmoving group of a dozen or so. "Do you all want to leave the Police Force too?"
The harsh rebuke made the remaining group look uncomfortable.
Finally, the person who had spoken earlier gritted his teeth and said, "Clan head, you might not know, but Captain Shin and the others already resigned from the Police Force. Before leaving, Captain Shin asked us to inform you."
"They left the Police Force? Hah! Good, very good. Uchiha Shin, you actually went through with it!" Fugaku sneered coldly, glaring at the group.
"Call back the remaining patrols. Today, I'll be appointing new captains. If they don't want the position, we don't lack replacements in the Police Force!"
But despite his words, the group of a dozen remained motionless.
"Why are you still standing there? Are you going to defy me?" Fugaku's gaze turned icy, his voice calm but cold.
The spokesperson let out a bitter laugh and said, "Clan head, the rest of the members have left the Police Force as well. It's just the few of us left here now. The others don't want to stay."
Fugaku's eyebrow twitched.
His face twisted.
His expression darkened. Uchiha Shin had really gone too far, taking a large part of the clan members with him.
Now, Fugaku's hatred for Shin has reached its peak.
The once great Police Force was reduced to just these few members. What a joke. What a disgrace.
"Did they say where they went?" Fugaku asked again.
The man shook his head, unable to hide his sorrow. "They… they've gone to join Uchiha Kinya. By now, they should have already arrived there."
Uchiha Kinya. It was always Uchiha Kinya.
Damn it.
It was all because of Kinya. If he hadn't said those things back at the clan meeting, these people wouldn't have dared to defy Fugaku's orders. They wouldn't have left the Police Force.
"Clan head, should we try to get Uchiha Shin and the others back?" The two captains behind him asked. Their faces were grim as well. Shin going to join Kinya was bad enough, but he took most of the Police Force members with him.
These people were the backbone of both the Police Force and the Uchiha clan. Without them, the remaining few couldn't possibly control half of Konoha's Police Force.
"Hmph, if they want to follow Kinya, then let them. I just hope they don't regret it later!" Fugaku's eyes flashed coldly, his voice heavy with anger.
He wanted to make those people regret it—the Uchiha clan members who had left.
"But..." The man wanted to explain, but when the words reached his lips, he didn't know how to continue.
Without those people on patrol, it was impossible for a small group of a dozen to Police Force the civilian district.
"No 'buts'. From now on, the two of you will be in charge of the Police Force Unit and the management of the Konoha civilian district!" Uchiha Fugaku said to them, his tone serious. "There's one more thing I need to inform you of."
"What is it?" The group was still trying to figure out how to allocate the few Police Force members they had when Fugaku spoke. His words immediately drew their attention.
"Due to excessive use of force during law enforcement, we need to compensate those people a total of 650,000 ryo. Currently, the Police Force Unit gets 500,000 ryo allocated from Konoha each month. You'll have to tighten your belts for now, but after we repay the amount, I'll give you all a raise!" Fugaku continued, looking at them.
His tone sounded as if he were doing them a favor.
A dozen people and 500,000 ryo!
That's about 30,000 ryo per person, which was a huge leap from the previous income of less than 10,000 ryo per person.
Some of the group started to feel regret, and a few were even relieved that Uchiha Shin had left with his people.
Living expenses in Konoha were rising, and a few thousand ryo was barely enough to support a family—just enough to scrape by.
But for the next two months, they would have to cut back on their spending.
At the Konoha Hospital.
"Lord Eisuke, how did we do?" After Fugaku and the others had left, the group reverted back to their usual slacker behavior, looking to Sarutobi Eisuke with flattery in their voices.
"50,000 ryo! That's not a small sum, and we can live comfortably for a while now."
The other thugs' eyes lit up with excitement.
"Heh, you all did quite well!" Sarutobi Eisuke lit a cigarette, a smile creeping onto his face. "Each of you can keep 10,000 ryō as compensation. The rest, send it to my residence."
"This..." The leader of the group, Yamano Sandan, froze for a moment. His previously cheerful expression stiffened, and the corners of his mouth twitched. The ninja of the Sarutobi clan was taking a hefty cut.
Seeing their reactions, Eisuke's face darkened. "What, you're not willing?"
"We're willing, we're willing! Once the Uchiha clan sends the money, I'll bring it straight to you!" Yamano Sandan quickly fawned, not daring to anger Eisuke.
"Good to see you're smart about this!" Eisuke's smile returned. "From now on, start causing trouble in the civilian district. Keep provoking the Uchiha clan. If they lay a hand on you, just fall to the ground and play dead. I'll back you up!"
"Heh, we understand!" Yamano Sandan and the others grinned. The Uchiha clan was a big target. As long as they dared to fight back, these guys would go straight to the hospital and demand compensation.
Eisuke nodded, satisfied, and walked out of the clinic. He glanced at the dozen men waiting outside and smiled confidently. "Alright, boys, let's go patrol the territory we manage."
"Yes, sir!"
The group responded in unison. These were the team leaders, and they would soon familiarize themselves with the areas they were assigned to manage, ready to officially start tomorrow.
After patrolling the lands of the major clans, they approached a civilian district – the only one under their control.
"Master Eisuke, this is the only civilian area under our jurisdiction, and it's also the most chaotic place we need to manage," one of the men stepped forward to remind him as they arrived.
"The most chaotic area, huh?" Eisuke took a drag from his cigarette, a sly smile appearing on his lips. "Interesting. Let's see just how chaotic it really is."
