Myths & Legends, Lies & Nobodies

Mill Kabrok has always wanted to be an adventurer, so he was excited when he finally got the chance to see what type of bloodline he had. What he didn't expect was the machine telling him he had no bloodline. No ability would have been fine, a low blood purity would have been ok as well, but the idea that his bloodline is 100% unknown. That was strange. He even has an ability even though the machine couldn’t read that either, but he had one just no bloodline. This was shocking to everyone because there has never been anyone without a bloodline. After running out of the event Mill found an abandoned building to sleep in where he had a dream, no, a vision of his ancestor where he learned the truth. His ancestor told him about how his bloodline was one that was never recorded into the system even though he was a member of the very first hero’s party. The one that beat the Ancient Disaster Agralon. Everyone from Mill’s era takes this to mean that the hero killed Agralon, but according to Mill’s ancestor that wasn’t the case. Agralon was sealed, not killed, but why would they lie about that and why was Mill’s ancestor not recorded in history? Something wasn’t right with history and Mill needed to find out while also preparing for Agralon’s release, as Mill’s ancestor told him, Agralon could only be sealed for 1500 years, and it’s been 1494 so he only had six years to increase his strength and get answers. After waking up, Mill had a newfound mission. His dream of becoming an adventurer was now just a means to the end. He needed strength and allies to help him fight so he started his journey by entering an adventuring academy. Mill would gain more understanding of his own bloodline, the world that he grew up in, and the secret histories of the world that had become lost to time. He will gain friends, enemies, allies, and rivals that will greatly impact him for the rest of his life. Agralon is the ancient disaster so how would he beat him?

Chapter 35: Chaperone

Mill and the others once again separated and slept through the night and left Karl to recover for the next day. That morning all of the first years were called to the school's student reserved adventurer's guild. There is another adventurer's guild at the school for public use but this one is to help students start off with missions that they should be able to handle at their level. On the first floor of the building now stood all of this year's new students as they awaited instruction.

"All right everyone. First of all, if you have any members from your entrance exam party then we ask you to get into the group." The students immediately started to move to into their groups. There were a few that had no other members, but Mill's group was able to fully join together or this moment. "It's good to be back." Karl was the first to speak up and Lua followed. "I see that they let you out of the infirmary. Are you good to do this?" Karl smiled at Lua and flexed his arm.

"The nurse said I'll be fine. He that I might feel uncomfortable moving my arms and legs for a bit but its normal after getting healed by magic." The group smiled but the cheerful aura quickly dissipated. The strange tension from the previous night had returned and everyone tried to ignore it but that made it only that much more noticeable.

"Now that you've gotten into parties it's time you each take on your first quest." The one speaking was Fina Ophis from the entrance exams. She motioned to a quest board at on the far end of the room. "Each one of your parties will choose a quest from the board and set out to complete it. There is no time limit on when you must return only that you complete the quest and return alive is important." A few of the students started to move toward that quest board but were stopped by an instructor. " Before you grab a quest you should know that since this is your first quest an instructor will be accompanying each group as a way to ensure the students' survival and that they stay on track. Of course, you can ask an instructor to accompany you if you have one in mind."

The instructor moved out of the way and the students went to choose their first quest. In the of the pack stood Mill's party. "We have to go with an instructor? I mean I guess that makes sense but who would we ask?" Mill looked to his party, and they had equally puzzled looks on their faces. "I have a magic theory instructor that we could ask. She's pretty powerful and quite nice." Lua offered. "Oh, if you mean Ms. Telmor then she's agreed to go with Tanya's group." Darren pointed across the room where Tanya was currently standing, and Ms. Telmor was indeed with their group.

"Ooh, I know a cleric instructor that's actually really good at close combat as well. We could as him." Darren chimed in. "Oh, do you mean Father Regi?" The Mill looked behind him as Lacey approached the group. "Yeah, I do. Why?" Lacey looked to Darren apologetically. "He's actually with me. I'm sorry." Lacey turned around waved to Father Regi.

"Well, I'm out of ideas then. I guess we'll just have to ask a random instructor." The group sighed when a voice called out "Well well, looks like we've got a bunch of sad students over here." Through the crowd walked in a man that was familiar to Darren and Mill. "You're the man from the Weapon Selection class. What do you want?" The man walked up to Mill. " Well, I don't have any particular reason to interact with the rest of them, but I guess you an' me have some history."

"We do? What kind of history? Oh, know are you one of my sister's exes? Ugh, why do all of you guys come to me?" The man smirked. "I like you kid. No, I aint' one of your sister's past relationships. My history is directly related to you, Mill Kabrok." The man drew his blade from his back and pointed it at Mill. The rest of the party started to move but stopped when the man withdrew his blade. "Alright I get. So, what sort of business do you have with me? Hurry up, I'd really like to grab a quest before the sun falls."

"Then we should get to it. After all, I am your chaperone for this little excursion." Mill glared at the man and then motioned for the group to follow him to the quest board. All of the other groups had already taken quests and left in fact only one quest was left. Mill looked back at the man again before ripping the final quest off of the board. "Looks like we have no choice after all." Mill held out the paper so that everyone could see what it said.

"Looking for a group of adventurers to clear out pests from mining cave. Location: Severton Village. Reward: 50 gold pieces." The group finished reading the quest and stood wide eyed. "50 gold pieces...That's amazing and all for an extermination mission." Karl excitedly snatched the paper and held it to the light. "Man, the others must not have seen this." Lua reached out and took the paper from Karl's hands.

"Or they weren't idiots. Look closely, don't you think it's a little strange that they didn't write the type of 'pests' that we would be killing. Blaze himself would be shocked that you were so stupid." Karl cleared his throat and fixed his hair that got ruffled from his movements.

"Look regardless of how dangerous the quest is we still have to do it for this assignment. So, let's just be happy that it has a decent reward." Darren stated the obvious, but it did good in getting everyone back on track. "So, instructor, what do you suggest that we do to prepare for this type of quest." Mill walked up to the instructor and asked. The instructor grabbed his chin and pondered. "Well first of all call me Myst. I don't really fit the description of an instructor." The group nodded and waited for Myst's suggestion. They stared at him intently.

"If you're waitin' for me to give you some sort of advice then you clearly don't understand what I meant by 'I don't fit the description of an instructor'. I'm not here to teach or guide you I'm just here to watch over you. What you do is all up to whoever your leader is." Darren, Lua, and Karl all turned to Mill who was currently deep in thought. After a few seconds Mill realized that his party was waiting for him to speak.

"Oh um, lets head to some stores and see if we can't get some potions or weapons. I think that's a good place to start." Mill's group nodded and left the guild to find some necessities for the journey. "I guess we'll also need some food and water for the journey. I wonder how far Severton is from here? I'll need to get a few things from my room." Mill also left to gather supplies for the journey. As the four of them were getting ready to leave they could only hope that nothing would make the current situation any worse.
