Awaken

When I awoke, I was on the floor, my roomates scattered around the room. One was snoring on the couch, while James—my closest roommate— was sleeping comfortably on the bed. Jack and Clyde were nowhere to be seen. I didn't see the watch until I noticed it was on my wrist. 'That's weird,' I thought. 'I don't remember putting the watch on."

Not only that, but it was seven in the morning, merely half an hour before school started. It takes twenty minutes just to get there.

"Crap! We're screwed!" I yelled. "Everyone up, now! We gotta get to school."

I ran to the kitchen with a pitstick and hand, fishing around in the cupboard for a bowl. I frantically looked around for the cereal, which was already on the counter for some reason. Everyone was hardly awake, which meant they partied hard last night. Only James seemed to be the only one jubilant enough to get moving along.

"Jake, Evan. Do you guys have your chasm watches?" I asked. Through a dazed mood, they gave a nod and lifted up their wrists. It was a cool coincidence that they had the same chasm ability: the ability to clone themselves. Only, Jake had a better grip on his power, while Evan could only do a few simple moves.

Everyone was eventually awake by 7:20, nearly ten minutes before school started.

I picked up my bike and the others followed my example.

"There's no time! Let's go dudes," I yelled to behind me.

"Sheesh, don't need to yell about it. It's only one class that your gonna be tardy for," Evan mumbled under his breath, which of course no one would hear except him.

I was not going to be late this time. Not anymore.

The gang was pedaling as fast as they could, the sounds of chains grinding like a symphony. As we arrived at the school, I jumped off my bike, which kept going straight into the bike rack. Evan and James were the second ones to get to the bike rack, but I was worried that Jake and the others were too far behind. I didn't have time to bother right now, as it was 7:28, enough time to sprint to class. This time, I wasn't gonna be late.

'5...4...3...2..." I was counting down the seconds. I made it to my seat right as the bell rang. 'Hey,' I thought. 'I made it to class on time. That's a good start for today, I guess.'

"Daily Quest 'On time' was complete. You have received 1 random stat point," a voice echoed in the room. I jumped up, startled by the same voice from yesterday, but nobody else didn't even flinch a single time. "Am I the only one that can hear this voice?" I thought, concerned and confused.

"Rewards: +20 exp.

Cosmetic: rainbow band; E-tier item"

Another holographic screen appeared in front of me. It was the same thing that happened yesterday. This time though, there were arrows all over the screen. "What do these do?" I was thinking. My thinking started to fuel my curiosity, where eventually I tried to click one of the arrows labelled, "Stats".

A new projectile showed up on the screen, introducing labels and numbers next to stats.

"<Strength: 8>

<Agility: 10>

<Chasm: 2>

<Intelligence: 7>

<Senses: 7>

<???>"

I found the question marks to be a little confusing, but what really caught my attention was the stat labelled "Chasm". It mentioned that I had two chasm. Could that be how much power level I had? If it was, then that was truly sad.

"Ahem," the teacher cleared her throat next to me. I looked up to see her staring directly at me, her eyes cold, but had a firm authority kind of look to them. "Andrew Dyllans?" she asked, for the second time. "Oh, here," I replied. I completely forgot the fact we had to take attendance.

But as soon as I answered the teacher, the screen disappeared.

"Dang it, now I won't get the chance to see what chasm does. If only I had more time to —," I started to think when the screen reappeared. An interesting thought started to come to mind. "Time," I thought. The home screen disappeared. For some reason, the watch reacted to the thought of time. But why?
