April Fool

"You're glowing!" Marli smiled happily.

"Stop it Marli. There's nothing about a glow. This is how I am. There's nothing physical that changed with me." I gave her a look, "don't think you can deceive me by trying to sidle up to me."

"Am not. Joking apart Lee, you're becoming cuter as the week goes by, come on, tell me the secret of your glow. I'm all ears."

"Come," I beckoned to her.

"What?" Despite how suspicious she looked at my call, she still brought her head near and bent to get the gist I want to share.

"Get a life!" I shout into her eardrums.

"Jeez!" She screeched at the sensation, "what did you do that for?"

"I did it because I love you!" Winking, I took to my heels, and she ran after me, shouting at the top of her lungs, while I shrieked like a kid having the time of his life.

"You know you can't catch me, just give up already." I stick my tongue out at her as I tried to spur her anger.

"Never! I must make sure I get hold of you today, else you won't love what I'll do to you should I get you later." Pointing at me, she continued with her chase, while I expertly evaded her.

Running out of the kitchen, I race into the parlour, hiding at the back of the chairs while she sought me out.

"You know you can stop this chase, right?" She sighed in exasperation.

"Never! It's either you catch up with me now, or I'll take it that you don't know how to run. You're just an old hag who doesn't know what to do with their life." Sticking my tongue out at her, I run out of the parlour, and towards the stairs.

And that was when I came face to face with my husband, who just woke up from sleep.

Not my fault, but I saw him a bit too late, and not in time to stop myself from crashing into him.

"Oops," I shout in fear as the collision made me almost fall on my butt, but Sly stopped the fall, by wrapping his hand around my waist.

I lock eyes with him, biting my lower lip at the proximity between us, I wasn't so sure of what to say.

All I did was lock eyes with him like a fool.

"I'll catch you, Lee, and when I do....." Marli came to a halt next to us. Her eyes were wide as saucers as she looked between a still surprised Lee, and the hand he still has on my waist.

Seeing her focus on us, I hastily separate myself from him.

"Mar…."

"I'll be in the kitchen should you require me." Without a backward glance at her supposed friend, Marli ran walk back to the kitchen where all this started from.

"Thank you." I look down, my cheeks pinking from how shy I felt with his hand around my waist *that was the closest I've ever been with him ever since we got married, and started living together.*

"Don't thank me." He replied in a clipped voice, "just watch where you're going. Had it not been for the fact you happened to crash into me, I would have let you hit your greedy gold-digging butt on the floor." Frowning deeply, he walked towards the same parlour Marli and I just exited.

"You might not have wanted to help me, but am glad you decided to help at the last minute." I smile to myself.

Taking a very deep, steady breath, I walk back to the Kitchen where Marli is preparing our late breakfast.

Sly isn't going to work today, that's why we're having a late breakfast.

Should I eat before him, he's likely to browse for any hurtful words to make use of on me. Words that will make me hate myself and life far more than I do now

That's why I am trying to prevent something like that by waiting for him.

"Your husband is so scary." Marli shivers, "I thought he'll have me frozen just from a look."

I roll my eyes at her over-exaggeration. "Sly has a cold demeanour and all those kinds of stuff, but there's one thing he's not, and that's a magician.

There'd be no way he can have you frozen by just a look."

" You never can tell." She gave the entrance to the kitchen a look," You might be surprised to know his great-grandfather was a magician before he died." She said in a conspiratorial tone.

"Serious?" I widen my eyes in question.

"Of course. It's said the spirit of his great-grandfather still lives on, and it's in the body of Sir Sly. His Greta Grand father's spirit resides in him."

" Wow." I fold my arms," you don't mean this," I look towards the door," little wonder he acts creepy most times. I should have put two and two together long ago, when...."

So, it's true, he has a magician's blood running through his veins.

Marli burst into laughter, clutching her stomach as tightly as she can, she laughed like a mad person who just saw something funny.

"What's wrong? Why are you laughing? Did I say something wrong?"

I thought back on the words I said as I tried to think of the funny thing I said, but I came up with none. I can't think of the funny thing I said that could have caused such reactions.

"You believed my words?" She laughed some more.

" What's there not to believe?" I tilt my head, confused as I tried to think about the possibility Marli might not be as mentally stable as I thought she was.

Maybe this is a type of illness that makes an appearance whenever she overexerts her mind?

"You think your husband's great-grandfather's spirit resides in him?"

"Of course I do." I frown at her.

" I never knew you were this easy to fool. I thought I'll have to work more to get something to fool you with." She smirked.

" And why's that?" I tilt my head, confused.

" April fool!"
