Crash is waiting expectantly, so I swallow all the explanations and disclaimers and just speak the simple truth.
"I'm scared." It seems like such a small word under the circumstances.
He turns to look away, then back at me then, not smiling, but his eyes soft. "What are you scared of?"
My mouth drops so wide I think I might swallow my own foot. "Are you kidding? I just showed you my son and you look like I grew a second head." My hands are waving, and my voice is too high, but I can't seem to stop. "I'm terrified that I'm going to lose you because of him. And even if you don't leave me because of him, what about me?"
