"It is your soul connection," Lana finally said. "It is the reason you feel the way that you do."

Luna looked at her with a complex expression, and Empress Lana could tell she would need to give some kind of explanation. The problem was that she wasn't sure how much she could reveal. Irene had told her a bit about what was going on in Elysium, and it would be better if Luna knew as little as possible for the time being. She needed to word things in a way that didn't put her daughter in any more danger than necessary.

Lana poured herself another glass of wine and swirled it around as she gazed at the murky red liquid.

"I've always stood by the idea that knowledge is power. It is because of my studies and research that we grew into the powerful nation that we are today."

Then, she gulped down the wine once again before continuing.
