Grimoires

"Ugh. I'm so tired." Hori said exhausted sitting in one of the chairs in our house.

Hori never worked this hard in her life before, so she was the one who had the most difficulty accommodating this world however her talent in magic is simply impeccable.

I can even see that she is already homesick and missing her family as she cries alone in her house with Hanabi comforting her.

I feel bad for her since she is the youngest one out of all of us and also from the most ordinary world. She didn't have conflicts like the rest of the members do.

"Do you miss your family?" I said with a small smile.

Hori looked at me and wondered what was with the sudden question.

"I was just.... curious." I kept my smile.

Hori's head dropped down and showed a sad smile, "I, I have just never been alone from my family for so long and all of this stuff is a bit mind-boggling for me." She lightly chuckled but then her eyes turn a bit teary, "I just miss them."

"I'm not like you guys. One fights huge Titans and tries to protect humanity's last home. Another is a God who lives in the world with many other gods. The other is a ninja and heir to the biggest clan in her huge village and you. You are a demon, not just any demon, the eldest son of the demon king!"

"But I am just a high school girl who hasn't even experienced her first love yet." Tears start falling down from her eyes.

But then she lifted her head and wiped her tears, "But since I am just a normal high school girl, that means I have a lot to grow. I won't be left behind by you guys. Since you said I have a lot of talent in magic then I simply have to be the best magic user in the group chat."

She showed me a bright smile that even blinded my eyes for a second.

I stayed silent and smiled seeing her new and profound gaze that seemed to have found a new purpose.

"You did that on purpose didn't you." She looked at me with a questioning gaze.

I tilted my head, "Whatever do you mean?" I said in a clueless voice as if I didn't have a clue what she was talking about."

"Y-you!" She pointed her finger at me but then let it drop, "Forget it. Thank you." She showed me a grateful smile.

I shrugged my soldiers and got up and started walking towards the door, I looked back and said my final piece, "I have to prevent you from breaking down like the frightful and fragile high school girl you are."

"YOU!" She wanted to chase me, but I was already long gone.

Hori then lay back on her chair and muttered, "Thank you though."

....

Now it was the day where we get our grimoires. Everyone was wearing what they first wore when we came into this world.

"Goodbye. Stay safe and I hope you guys become Magic Knights. We will have the tatoes ready and warmed up when you guys come again." Orsi said with a bit of tear in his eyes.

"Thank you, Orsi." I bowed to him as a sign of thankfulness after all he had done for us. The rest of the other members also bowed.

He then walked up to Asta and Yuno and began his pep talk and goodbyes.

Asta then walked up to Sister Lily and then yelled, "When I come back from getting my grimoire, I will ask you to marry me again!"

Sister Lily shook her head and just said goodbye to Asta and Yuno and then us.

"Bye!" We all said bye before going on our journey towards the capital.

"I'm going to miss this place," Yato said.

"We are coming back after we get our grimoires since we need to wait 6 months until the Magic Knight Exam," I spoke.

"Oh yeah!" Yato remembered.

I sighed and then looked at Hori whose head was down. I roughly rub her head and messed up her hair.

"Hey!" She shouted at me.

"Come on. We have a long way to go."

She paused for a second then just harumphed. "I am fine!" She hit my hand off and started walking to catch up to Hanabi who was up ahead.

Sigh, Kids.

Levi then walked by my side, "We have a lot to do in this world."

I lightly chuckled, "Yep. We didn't even finish one objective yet."

"How long do you think we will be here for?" Levi asked.

I put my hands on my chin and thought for a couple of seconds while walking, "9 months. Probably more. Could even possibly be a year if unexpected things happen."

Levi let out a sigh, "So 9 months with you?"

"It is going to be fun hahaha."

We just walked the entire time and took in the sight that was all around us. I made small talk with Levi, and he surprisingly replied back to me most of the time.

Walking for a while we finally came upon the sight of a huge tower. We walked in and saw many people there. Asta was busy screaming and muttering to be aware that a lot of people were looking at him but once we came into their view, their eyes widened.

"Foreigners?" A random person said.

"Their clothes are so different too." Another one said.

"They also look much older than 15. Maybe they failed to get their grimoire the first few times?"

"Where are they from?"

"You fool. The real question you should be asking is who are they."

"You fool! The real real question you should be asking is why are they."

After we went in, we ignored the mutterings that were focused on us.

We also heard some people speaking about Asta and how he has no magic.

We all looked up and paid attention to the old man with a long white beard and mustache who began using magic to make his voice louder.

"Welcome, young men and women. You all begin a new journey today." The old man started using magic and float down on a green square floor.

"I wish you all faith, hope, and love." He stepped on the podium, "I am the master of this grimoire tower. We've never had a Wizard King from this area, nor anyone who's actually achieved greatness in the Magic Knights,

"I sincerely hope that one of you will become the Wizard King someday." The old man paused for a second and then closed his one eye and shouted, "No, really! Seriously!"

All of us just stared at him. He coughed and then began speaking again, "Now it's time for the awarding.... of the grimoires!"

All of the sudden some of the books on the side of the walls began to glow up and float. They began to float in people's hands.

A cyan color grimoire went to Hanabi.

A yellow color grimoire went to Levi.

A red color grimoire went to Hori.

A light gray color grimoire went to Yato.

A black color grimoire went to me.

Why is it always black for me? Well, I do look good in black, that's for sure.

All of us had the same size grimoire which was a 5-inch-thick book and a 14-inch height.

We opened it and flipped through the pages. Only a few pages were filled for each of us.

"I only have 3 spells!" Hori yelled

"Yeah, me too!" Yato added

"They will probably get filled the more we get used to magic and get stronger," I said.

"Baal is right. We just need to get stronger." Hanabi agreed.

Levi looked at his grimoire and seemed content.

"Um...." There he was in all of his glory. Asta with his arms open waiting for his grimoire but he never got it.

Seeing this, I shake my head and could only say that it is unfortunate.

"Poor guy," Yato said sadly.

After everyone was making fun of Asta, Yuno received his grimoire, and it began to light up and then people began to gasp.

"I'm going to become the Wizard King," Yuno said as if it was a matter of fact.

Asta got up and said, "Yuno.... Just you wait. I'll catch up to you in no time. Because I am your rival!" He shouted the last bit.

My body shivered from the cringe I got there.

Everyone laughed.

Yuno just stared at Asta then walked past him, "Not possible."

I start to walk out of the tower when my eyes caught the sight of a suspicious person hiding like a little rat.

"What are you looking at?" Hori asked me.

"Nothing." I turned away and continued walking.
