Chapter Thirty: The City That Never Sleeps

Mazkin’s head shot up when she realized she had started to fall asleep. Her eyelids still felt heavy and all she wanted was to get back to Jonah. Abruptly, the music stopped and Lucifer started clapping wildly.

“That was terrific, gentlemen,” Lucifer announced. He stood up quickly and straightened the lining of his deep purple suit. Mazakin took a deep breath and tried to pretend to be focused. “I think we need a little more on the bass though if we are going to really sell this song.”

The band members sighed and the drummer wiped the sweat off his forehead. Lucifer started to circle around the band as if assessing their entire style.

“What do you think, Mazi?” he asked, turning back to Mazakin, pointing to the lead singer's jacket.

“I think he needs a cleaner jacket, less patches. It’s a mess and none of the patches make sense.” Mazakin rubbed the growing migraine off of her temples.
