Adrian's presence overwhelmed me, and the sweet, seductive tone in his voice wrapped around me like chains. "Come with me, girl. I will give you power, calm you at any time. Just say yes and bow down," he murmured, his large hand cupping my face. His grip was firm, almost crushing, and I could feel his dark energy seeping into me.
My body felt heavy, unable to resist. My pheromone was betraying me, clouding my mind and making me weak. The air grew thick, my senses dull. I couldn't move, and I couldn't use my powers. He had me under his control, his hypnotic influence spreading like poison.
"Say yes, girl," he whispered, his voice dangerously soothing, pulling me deeper into his trap. I felt myself sinking, my eyes fluttering shut. But then, a sound broke through the fog in my mind.
"Erin!" A voice called out, sharp and urgent. "Erin, stop it!"
My eyes snapped open, and I saw a ferocious, black creature standing in front of me, its presence breaking Adrian's hold. Without thinking, I pushed Adrian with all my strength. Caught off guard, he stumbled backward, glaring at me with shock and anger.
I turned to the voice. Jack! What was he doing here? I told him not to come! Fear surged through me as I noticed Malina behind him, her eyes glazed over. Adrian had hypnotized her too.
"Jack, stop!" I screamed. "Don't come near me!"
But it was too late. Adrian's shadow was moving towards Jack, a deadly force that I could feel in every fiber of my being. "You can't save him, Erin," Adrian sneered, his voice filled with rage. "He ruined everything. He shouldn't have chosen you!"
I saw a black shadow creeping up behind Jack, ready to strike. Panic surged through me. "No!" I screamed, summoning all my power. I unleashed a burst of fire, watching as the flames engulfed the shadow.
"Jack!" I called, running toward him, desperate to keep him safe from the danger that surrounded us.
I burned the shadow, but I was too late. I held Jack in my arms as his breathing slowed, and his eyes fluttered shut.
"Jack, no... Jack, open your eyes!" My voice trembled, and tears began to spill. "We promised each other, remember?" My heart was breaking, shattering with every second that passed. I cradled him closer, my tears soaking his face. This wasn't how it was supposed end.
Suddenly, I heard his voice again. "Erin." I looked up and there he was—standing in front of me. "Jack?" I whispered, my mind whirling in confusion. He extended his hand to me, his eyes warm and loving, his smile the same one I had fallen for.
"Come to me, honey," he said softly. His voice wrapped around me like a familiar melody. For a moment, I closed my eyes, wanting so badly to believe it was him. The scent, the warmth—it felt real. I started to reach for him, but something inside me stopped.
"Erin," his voice lowered as he touched my cheek. "Don't leave my hand. Have faith in God. He'll help you, and we'll meet in heaven."
I opened my eyes, the truth sinking in like a blade. No. This wasn't Jack. My real Jack lay limp in my arms, his life slipping away. I looked down at his body, my tears falling onto his face. Rage ignited inside me like a firestorm.
I glared at the figure in front of me. "I won't let you win," I growled through gritted teeth, my skin flushed red with fury. "I won't go with you."
Recalling the verses I had memorized from the book, I began to recite them aloud, pouring every ounce of power I had into the incantation. The air around me crackled, thick with energy. I could feel Adrian's fury as he hissed my name, but I didn't stop.
My hands trembled violently, and I could feel blood dripping from my nose. Pain tore through my body, but I kept chanting. My vision blurred, but I knew I was close. I couldn't defeat him, but I could hold him back. Just a little longer… until dawn.
Suddenly, the strength left me, and I fell to my knees. Blood poured from my mouth, my body shaking from exhaustion. I looked up at Adrian, a monster now, approaching slowly with a dark, twisted smile.
"You can't defeat me," the demonic voice echoed in my ears as I lay on the cold ground. My body felt heavy, drained of all strength. I could feel something dragging me, pulling me into darkness. Sleep tugged at my consciousness, but I fought against it. I couldn't go. Not to Hell.
"Please, God, save me," I whispered weakly, clinging to the last threads of hope. Suddenly, everything around me lit up with a blinding glow. Morning had come, and with it, salvation.
"Dad?" I opened my eyes, confused, finding myself in my bedroom. My chest heaved as I tried to breathe, my heart racing from the nightmare that had almost consumed me. How did I get here?
"Baby," Dad rushed in, wrapping his arms around me. His voice cracked with relief, and he wept softly. "Are you okay?"
I nodded, still trying to understand. "Dad, what am I doing here?"
"Everything is fine now," he said, though there was a heaviness in his voice, "but—"
I looked down, feeling the weight of reality crash into me. Jack. Tears filled my eyes, and I couldn't stop them from spilling over. "I know, Dad," I whispered. Jack was gone, and nothing could change that.
"But," Dad's voice broke through my grief, "he left you a gift, Erin."
I blinked, unsure of what he meant. "A gift?"
At present, I smiled, staring down at my beautiful baby girl. "Yes, it's you, Eshaal," I whispered, kissing her soft forehead. Jack's final gift to me. "We'll meet your daddy soon, baby. I promise."
