My Beast-System

Life can be complicated. Like now, I have entered my own novel, just to enter another novel in that novel. Ironic huh? A/N: Read 'Read before Reading' in the auxiliary volume, before continuing. PS: The cover is not mine and belongs to the respectful owner. Credits to the artist.

Warriors with insanity are Gems in Bloodshed

As James stabbed the chest of one of the enemy's assassins, they got alerted in a jiffy. It made things a bit difficult for Clay, who was not as strong as the warriors.

His swords clashed with the warrior at the frontline while others were busied with their own battles.

He tried putting all his power into the attack but something felt missing.

He couldn't even pressurize the opponent.

The look on the warrior's face annoyed him was another huge trigger to it, but he suddenly exploded with energy. The tooth-sized Beast Crystal reacted.

[The blood Lust in the surroundings has awakened the piece of Beast Crystal. You cannot absorb it anymore. The system will consume the awakened Crystal.]

He didn't care. As long as it would benefit him, he would try anything. So without thinking much he allowed the system to do as it wished.

Trying to hold his stand against the warrior in a 1 on 1, he kept slashing and using his skills pretty well.

Out of the two swords, the one he had received as a gift was the best. Being a C Rank made him think it was not the best he could use, but it was doing the most impact while the other one just helped in annoying both him and his opponent.

While he jumped back and did a backflip to avoid his opponent's huge sword from cutting off his feet, the system made a sound.

[The Beast Crystal has been consumed. Would you like to make upgrades?]

It asked and Clay accepted without hesitation.

The system glowed a pitch-black colour and soon, he felt a surge of power. Not in the sword or system this time. It was inside him.

[You have levelled up! x2]

[Beastification available. Would you like to continue?]

He was over the top that his level had increased by two and now he could at least hit his enemy. But what he was worried about was the Beatification. He didn't know if the 'dog' would be of any help, but in his current situation, any animal would benefit him.

With no other option either, he accepted the suggestion and the System window went away.

What came later was worse. Worse than the time he had been hit by the car. It was making him go insane.

His body felt like it was being stretched, forcibly as if someone trying to rip it off. His bones started to make sounds of crushing and his pupils grew bigger and bigger until they had completely covered the white of his eyes.

He roared in pain startling even the enemy side who were pressing harder on mercenaries. He screamed harder and harder but soon even that roar died. His throat made devilish sounds that of grumbling and bones cracking.

It was visible that the bones in his throat were being shifted and much other stuff. As if someone was stirring his insides extremely hard, everyone could see his body 'Modify'.

Smoke started to form from his body and the dust rising because of his stomping was making it difficult for everyone to see.

His voice got quieter and quieter as seconds passed by. All this happened so quickly that not many noticed the changes in him before his surrounding was covered with smoke.

The voice was completely dead now. As if he had died, the enemy side was ready to attack again, but the smoke was cut by sharp nails.

It drew a small drawing of sharp lines in the middle of smoke before it puffed in the air and something walked out.

It was human for sure. Two legs and two hands. But unbelievably huge and tall. It was almost twice the size of a normal human.

Golden Fur and Blue eyes that shined like some jewels. Claws so sharp, the opponent gulped just imagining those tearing them. Teeth were bared in anger as its canines grew.

It looked human, yet animalistic features were completely overtaking its body. The thing walked but it made sounds of stomping.

It looked around.

[Congratulations! You have successfully become one with the Soul of the dog. The dog's soul had been modified with the beast crystal and mana in this world.]

The voice of the system spoke to him as the window glowed. He looked down and saw his legs as if they were the hind legs of a dog. His hands were paw-like with long nails.

When he tried to speak, a bark-like roar erupted.

His eyes could see the people but in grey. The clothes were yellow-coloured of his comrades, while the enemy's clothes in blue.

But, these colours weren't strong. They were shades of said colours.

But because he was a modification of human and animal, no less an animal among the top breeds, he could feel each breath on the battlefield.

He could see their throats move, their chests lift as they breathed,...in slow motion.

The C-Rank sword was still in his hand while the rusty one had crumbled from his grip. Maybe or maybe not the others had seen it, but his muzzle twitched and he grinned, pushing the canine an inch forward.

And in split second, he had cut the warrior in front of him. He had only three sword skills. Horizontal Slash wouldn't work in the form he was in currently is what he presumed. Since the flexibility needed to do so was less. Stab would still keep a warrior alive and maybe put him in danger after that.

So he selected the vertical Slash. The warrior, along with his armour fell to the ground in two directions like a limp piece of meat.

His intestines, liver, lungs and all that were considered innards had fallen out and squashed by clays legs.

He stood there, with one of his hands clenching the sword while the other was free to swipe down any other person in his way.

This caused an uproar on the battlefield. Though his side of the battalion was calm, the enemies had started to retreat while some wanted to confront him.

The strong resolve was due to immense profit after defeating a beast. After humans that wielded mana or aura defeated the beasts, they were rewarded with some of the defeated beast's energy. Though aura was less in amount, it still was attainable.

In thrust of gaining these energies which were difficult to absorb from nature or cultivate as they say, when you got stronger. That is why, hunting demonic, magical beasts was a craze in the current period. So much so that the warriors who were destined for war also tried hunting beasts in their free time.

"Run you, idiots! That monster is twice larger than you. It's bigger than most monsters, we can't even scratch it!!" the ones running screamed back at their comrades.

However, the ones staying behind had insanity in their eyes. As if they were ready to die. The mana once absorbed, would affect your mind. 60% of people absorbing mana were losing their sanity and only 40% were able to handle it.

The example of how it affected people was right in front of everyone. These people had no fear even if death itself stood in front of them. They didn't move an inch when attacks passed them, so impactful that it could even kill them.

Messed up in the brain but, useful in wars.

'Warriors with insanity are royal gems found in bloodsheds.' it was a saying left behind by a legend. A warrior who had been declared immortal of wars. The living legend of every war.

Clay stepped forward. He could feel it, the strength welling in his hand. He wondered if it would work. If his hands would deal the same damage as the sword.

And to test it, he swiped his paw down on the person ahead of him.

SPLASH

Blood spurted from the body's neck as the head flew in opposite direction. When the blood tricked down his nails, he looked at the crimson colour with admiration.

'Beautiful' he said aloud but only came out a bark.

And soon he was rampaging around, not worrying about anything. Cutting down the blue-clothed men on his path. He ran through the woods and jumped on the trees that were so tall that even assassin tools would not reach them. But for him, it was only jumps struggle.

"Awoooo!" he howled on the top of the tree, his eyes searching the blue-shaded armour in the black and white forest.

He saw it, only a glimpse. The man was running fast. So fast, his eyes saw him in normal motion.

Clay took a huge leap, destroying a small tree as he landed on it. The said man was nowhere. He looked around.

Nothing. But then, he heard a sound, whistling through the air, ripping it and speeding towards him. His eyes turned around just as he did and he saw a glint of silver.

At the point of his nose, he ducked letting the hunting knife hit the tree behind him. From behind the huge boulder came a man.

He wasn't scared but he didn't look too brave either. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call him expressionless.

The hood over his head was still there but now fully revealing his face. He also had a mask on his face and clothes ran towards his fingers only living the tips open.

Clay leapt but the man reacted just in time to stab the sword behind him at Clay. The dog…man,...whatever you would like to call him, didn't have enough time to dodge so he grabbed the sword that sliced a bit of his skin.

But he felt no pain.

The assassin on the other hand was having a difficult time because of this monster. He was feeling tremors all over his body even with the slightest tap of its hand.

To escape its attack range, the assassin threw a black-coloured, cylindrical bomb.

Generally called the Dark Fairy, it was used to darken the opponent's vision by spreading darkness.

However, this time the assassin had miscalculated.

The monster's eyes glowed brightly and the assassin could see them. Even though he was running without glancing back, how could he see it?

'Ah…' his last thought was a simple exclamation but he had understood one thing. Even when not facing a monster, you can see them. Because they cut your head.

As…simple as that. The monster howled with all its might and started…shrinking.
