CHAPTER 44

"An assassin without weapons is half defeated, unless she's a dragon, of course," Janet said.

Her face began to transform into a snout. "Don't hold back, sister. I want to see just how much you've been hiding from us."

RIIIPP!!

Her clothes ripped apart as she increased in size. Wings and a tail sprouted out from behind her.

CRACK!!

The ground cracked as her forelimbs hit the ground, and she flapped her wings. Janet was a thirty-meter purple western dragon, with a wingspan of fifty meters. Her horns were curved like a ram's, and sharp-looking spines ran down her vertebrae. Each of her breaths was accompanied by a purple mist.

She took a deep breath and fired her poison breath at me.

The second Janet transformed, I followed suit, a flash of lightning blinded Janet and when she opened her eyes I was in my dragon form. My scales were blue with streaks of yellow lightning dancing on them unlike my purple scales as Damian's avatar, a powerful pair of wings spread out and in my right claw was a lightning spear.

Naturally I also transformed, I didn't know if anyone was watching us and I didn't want to expose all my cards.

This time it was my turn to roar, Janet responded with a roar of her own and launched herself at me, I countered by swiping my spear at her, she was strong, I'll give her that but she was a bit slow.

Janet managed to evade my spear at the last moment, but in doing so, she made herself open to an attack from my tail. I swiped my tail at her and it slammed into her abdomen, she howled in pain and stumbled back. Taking advantage of the moment, I launched my lightning spear at her while she was down. But she quickly recovered and dodged it again.

Janet kept trying to launch ranged attacks at me, but I kept dodging them easily.

We both faced each other, roaring again. I looked at Janet and smirked, she took that as a challenge and charged at me. I dodged to the side and then swiped at her with my tail again. This time, though, she was ready and dodged it. In response, she launched another barrage of poison darts at me. I spread my wings and flew up, the darts missing me by a hair's breadth.

Despite my speed advantage, Janet was no slouch. She was quick-witted and noticed a gap in my defenses. Turning quickly, she flew at me at full speed, aiming right for my head. However, I was prepared for such an attack, thanks to my superior defenses.

As she approached me, I dived down and then shot up again, flying right over her head. As I did, I slammed my tail down, causing a powerful gust of wind to slam into her, sending her tumbling down towards the ground.

As Janet fell, I shot down and used my magic to create a swirling vortex of lightning around her. She thrashed around, trying to escape, but my spell was too strong. Eventually, she was able to break free, but she was weakened by the attack. Her scales were charred and her movements were sluggish.

Knowing I had the advantage, I flew in close to her and started peppering her with blasts of lightning from my mouth. She tried to dodge, but it was too late. My lightning bolts were fast and too powerful as I mixed my perpetual lightning attack between them.

From the look in her eyes, I could tell what she was thinking: How were my lightning attacks so powerful? No one in our generation of dragons had ever seen lightning magic used to such an extent.

Seizing on her confusion, I launched a barrage of lightning bolts, but she quickly recovered and retaliated. A massive blast of poison shot out from her mouth, headed straight for me.

I had to act fast. Using all my speed, I dodged the blast and then flew around to her side, where she was more vulnerable.

Just as I was about to attack, Janet summoned a poisonous mist around herself. It was thick and green, swirling around her like a cocoon. I couldn't see through the mist, and I knew that it would hinder my lightning attacks. I had to be careful.

The mist cleared for a moment, and I saw Janet's tail lash out at me. I dodged just in time, but the attack was a feint. In that moment of distraction, she lunged forward and bit into my wing, sending a wave of pain through my body.

!!!!

I got scared for a moment there but as Janet bit into my wing, I realized that she wasn't actually trying to kill me. She was just trying to test my defenses, and she was doing a good job of it. I needed to be more careful, or I would end up losing this spar.

I quickly used my lightning magic to create a protective field around myself. It wasn't enough to harm Janet, but it would keep her from getting any closer. Then, I used my magic to blast her with a wave of lightning.

You got it! Here's the next part:

The lightning wave struck her, but she was prepared for it. She used the poisonous mist to absorb the shock and heal herself. Her wounds were already beginning to close. This wasn't going to be easy, I realized.

I focused my energy on creating a more powerful attack. I summoned a massive bolt of lightning and channeled it through my body. Then, I released it in a massive blast towards Janet.

[ PERPETUAL LIGHTNING JUDGEMENT]

[ABSOLUTE LIGHTNING FIELD]

The gigantic bolt of lightning tore through the mist and hit Janet, sending her crashing to the ground. She tried to stand up again, but was struck by another bolt. Bolt after bolt continued to rain down on her until she couldn't handle it anymore. She transformed into human form to conserve energy, and I canceled the spell.
