"Mr. Hayes, as I informed you before, the injury on your daughter's head is severe. According to the scan results, the injury slightly damaged her vein which leads her to suffer from amnesia," the doctor who was a woman in her 40s apologetically informed Patrick Hayes, the Chairman of the influential Hayes Group.
Patrick Hayes's face turned pale at the unexpected bad news! His daughter had amnesia and forgot everything?!
"Doctor Lucia, will she be able to gain her memory back?" The dejected father asked the doctor in a low voice.
"I cannot guarantee anything. She might be able to regain her memory but there is also a possibility that her amnesia could be permanent," Doctor Lucia honestly replied.
Patrick Hayes's hung his head low. How did all these things happen?
His daughter had gone missing for a week. They finally found her after endless searching but in the hospital. On top of that, she was in critical condition fighting for her life!
No one knew how she got hurt but they assumed that she fell from the mountains. Someone found her near the hills in the countryside with her whole body covered in blood!
The Hayes's rushed to the hospital as soon as they received a call but all the hospital staff were convinced that she won't make it. They were even told to prepare for the worst!
While they were in the pit of darkness, desperately hoping for her life to be saved, a light of hope shone upon them. His daughter miraculously survived!
She was in a coma for two weeks until she finally woke up about an hour ago but... she didn't remember anything. Her name, all her past, and her family; she forgot all of them!
Patrick Hayes slowly turned around and stared at his daughter who was lying on the hospital bed. Her lifeless and pale skin broke his heart! What happened to his once beautiful and confident daughter?
Apart from her severe head injury and a fractured right leg bone, there were also some wounds on her face and all over her body!
"Emery." Jason Hayes who was sitting beside the bed gently held his sister's hand. "Don't be afraid. I'm here. Dad is also here. Everything will be alright," he reassured his younger sister in a soothingly warm voice.
"Dad?" Emery Hayes uttered as if the beautiful word intrigued her. She lifted her eyes and looked at the man who was called her 'dad'.
The moment he heard her voice, Patrick Hayes rushed to his daughter's side and held her hand. "Dear, I'm your father. Can you remember anything?" He asked her with hope.
Emery Hayes stared at her father for a while. Even though she cannot remember anything, the look in her father's eyes told her how much the man cared for her. It even made her feel guilty!
"I'm sorry." She muttered in a hoarse voice.
The father was feeling downhearted at the response.
How will his daughter live on? Will she be able to lead a normal life again? His heart ached when he thought about his beloved daughter's future!
"It's fine, Emery. What matters the most is that you're still alive! Isn't it, Dad?" Jason Hayes exclaimed, trying to cheer up his father and sister.
In fact, it was hard for him too. However, he believed that everything will be normal again once time passed.
Patrick Hayes fainted a smile and gently ran a finger through his daughter's hair. "Your brother is right. Even if you forget everything, we can create new memories together again as long as you're alive. Don't worry and only focus on your recuperation," he comforted his daughter.
Emery Hayes nodded and blankly stared at the floor. Her once shining sky-blue eyes were dimmed as if she had no hope in life!
Jason Hayes looked at his sister who was once a stubborn and spoilt heiress. She was missing for just a week but... how did her eyes lose all their brightness? What happened to her?! He secretly clenched his fist while maintaining a comforting smile for her. He didn't want to make her worry.
Whoever made his sister like this will surely pay! He promised himself that he won't stop unless he finds out the truth.
Patrick Hayes glanced at his wristwatch and frowned when he realized the time. Then he turned his head to his son. "I have an important meeting to attend. Take care of your sister. I'll be back right away."
"Okay. Don't worry, Dad," Jason Hayes replied and the father left the hospital in a hurry.
While Jason Hayes was staring at the door where his father just left, his sister's hoarse voice almost startled him.
"Are you my brother?" Emery Hayes asked. She was curiously staring at him with her dimmed eyes.
Jason Hayes tilted his head to his sister and nodded as he fainted a smile. "Yes. I'm your only brother. Do you have any other questions?"
"Then who am I?"
Never once did Jason Hayes think there would come a day when his sister would ask him such a question! In the past, she always took pride in her name and identity. 'I'm Emery Hayes.' That's what she always said with confidence!
"You're Emery Hayes, the only daughter of Hayes Group Chairman, Patrick Hayes. I'm your older brother, Jason Hayes. You're 22 years old," he replied with much difficulty.
Emery Hayes held her head and closed her eyes, trying to remember a single thing. But it was useless as it only made her head hurt more! A few seconds passed and she ended up yelping in pain!
Seeing this, Jason quickly took down her hands and worriedly glanced at her. "Don't try too hard, Emery. The doctor said that it will only hurt your head more. You can take your time. I will help you. No need to rush things."
Emery calmed down at her brother's warm voice. To tell the truth, she was afraid. Losing all her memories, forgetting even who she was; it felt as if the whole world had become her enemy!
She was in no position to doubt people's words as she had no memory. It made her feel scared and desperate. But the voice of the man who introduced himself as her brother was so warm that it made her feel at ease. She sensed a hint of seriousness in his voice and gentle expression.
When Jason Hayes examined his sister's reaction, he realized that she was feeling scared and nervous. He thought of a way to make her comfortable.
"Don't be scared, Emery. You forget everything and I know it will be hard for you to believe everything I said." Pausing for just a split second, he continued, "Let's do this. Our house is not far from here. So, I'll go home and bring something that could make you believe me and calm you down. I'll be back within thirty minutes."
"You don't have to worry. There are guards on standby outside the room. Just call them if you need anything. Okay?" He reassured her as he gently caressed her on the head.
"Okay," Emery Hayes muttered and Jason Hayes left for home right away.....
