Loved And Cared

The Chairman of Pierre Group, Mason Pierre had many similarities with his son and Emery noticed how much Marcus took after his father. One glance and there was no doubt that they were father and son.

The father had a formidable aura but the little smile he showed to greet her put Emery at ease.

"Emery, I was so glad when I heard that you woke up. So, I came right away," Mason Pierre said to her in a friendly voice. "How are you feeling now?"

Jason explained her condition to him on his way here and he was being careful because of everything he heard. Even an influential Chairman like him also felt lost!

"I'm fine," Emery replied. "My head still hurts a bit but it is not severe. Thank you for worrying about me."

Mason Pierre's smile grew a bit wider at her response. "You don't have to thank me, Emery. We're all family." He sat down on a bench beside her bed and said, "It's fine even if you can't remember anything. Just focus on your recovery."

The Chairman's gaze briefly swept his son and added, "Marcus will also help you. Everything will be fine."

Emery didn't know how to respond but she gently nodded once. The warmth and affection of the people around her comforted her and ease her fears.

She felt loved and cared for and she was amazed by just how soothing the feeling was.

"Marcus, take good care of Emery. I talked with your mother and she said that if things went well, she will be able to recover within this summer vacation," Mason Pierre said to his son. "You don't need to study during the vacation. So, spend as much time as possible with her."

Marcus Pierre nodded at his father's words. "Yes, Dad."

After a few more chats, Mason Pierre left the hospital. As Jason Hayes left the room to see the Chairman out, Emery and Marcus were the only ones in the room... again.

"Your father talked about summer vacation," Emery Hayes started, breaking the silence that goes on for a few seconds. "Are you a student?"

Marcus rubbed his temples thinking of how he had to explain even that now. He was reminded of how unpredictable life could be!

"Not just me," he said. "You too. We're both 22 and we attend the same university. Final Year BBA."

His response made Emery blink!

Does that mean she had to attend university once she recovered? With her wiped-out memory?!

"Is something wrong?" Marcus Pierre asked her when he saw her reaction.

"How will I study with this memory?" Emery asked in a low voice, sounding more downhearted than ever.

For the first time, she saw him flashing a smile while looking at her. "I think losing your memory also has an advantage," he remarked with that small smile still lingering on his face.

"What do you mean?" She asked him, dumbfounded.

"The old Emery Hayes never worries about her studies," Marcus Pierre said. "You never really care about it."

His revelation made Emery frown. "Do you mean that I'm a bad student?"

Marcus thought about it and said, "Not that bad. I will call it an average. Your father wants you to have a BBA degree. Once you obtain the degree, he will allow you to learn or choose whatever career you like."

"Then what about you?" She asked him with curiosity. He seemed to be pretty smart.

"I won't tell you that," Marcus simply said. "Recover first and you will know that once we return to the university."

It wasn't that hard to answer her question. Why must he let her wait? Emery found it quite frustrating.

"I don't know that you can say those many words," she pointed out. "You don't even bother to talk to me when you arrive."

The Emery Hayes he knew was more pleased when he ignored her but... he decided to not say that.

"Didn't you hear my father ordering me to look after you? I'm only doing what I'm told to do," he said to her.

"I see," Emery muttered and narrowed her eyes. "You seem to be a good son who listens to his father well."

"If you respect someone, you listen to them naturally," Marcus Pierre explained. "Besides, you're not much different, Emery. You are also good at listening to your father. That's how we ended up being engaged."

He didn't know her well like a man should know his fiancee but... he always knew one thing.

She might be a spoiled brat but she was a good daughter. She always had a close relationship with her father.

"I really wish to have my memory back," Emery muttered in a low voice. "Unable to remember everything scares me so much. I don't know how I'm supposed to face my acquaintances, let alone the world."

"You can worry about that later," Marcus Pierre said to her in a somehow assuring tone. "You injured your leg and you will need a bit of time for that to heal. Once your body becomes fit, it will help your brain too."

Emery only nodded at his words.

After giving some thought, Marcus said, "Only three weeks are left for the summer vacation. If you work hard during that, you will be a lot better once class starts."

The moment he finished talking, the door was opened and Jason Hayes walked inside again. He sat on the bench which was on Emery's left. "You look a lot better than when you woke up," he remarked with a little smile and turned to Marcus. "What are you talking about?" he asked.

He heard Marcus's voice on his way here and though he had known this young man since he was a child, he never heard him talk that much. That made him curious.

What would this aloof young man possibly say to his amnesiac sister?

"We were talking about university," Marcus replied. "Emery is afraid that she won't be able to study with her current situation."

Jason Hayes nodded and turned to his sister. "You don't have to worry, Emery. You can take a break if you wish. Your health comes first," he quickly said without much thought.

Emery gave a thought and met her brother's gaze. "But I think I should give a try," she opined. With a low voice, she added, "Maybe it will help me get back my memory."
