The drive back to Rai’s parents’ home was silent, just like before. It was even unsettling as I could feel Damian pulling himself away from me. The distance between us stretched even further with each passing minute. I wanted to talk to him to break the silence, but I couldn’t. Just the way he sat there driving calmly with his body rigid, made me unable to get a word out. I looked out the window instead. This was the first time I felt an uncomfortable silence with him. Lucky Leah was here with us.
We reached Rai’s parents’ house just as dinner was served. Damian put little Rai’s bag in Rai’s parents’ room. Apparently, little Rai was going to sleep with them. It warmed my heart to know that they were already loving their grandson that much.
“Mom, I hope you don’t mind that I brought a dog over here. Little Rai is very close to her,” I told Rai’s mom.
