“I didn’t realize it was so late.”

Frye shrugged and helped Markle to his feet. Sitting for so long in that position may have been worse than Frye’s constant moving.

“It’s not. The fine people here just have other business to attend to.”

So did Frye, for that matter. He’d saved just enough strength for an outing.

“Thanks, lads,” the innkeeper called out.

Frye nodded his head as he bent down to pick up the money they’d earned. He hadn’t trusted the innkeeper to hold onto it, so he’d collected them in an empty pouch by Markle’s feet. If the guy had been a decent fellow, he would have given Frye and Markle a discount on their room after their performance.

Oh well. People were people. Frye couldn’t change the way the man was without some seriously invasive magic.

“If it’s not too late, why are we stopping?” Markle asked as they climbed the stairs.
